Forget abt anything from Rosoboronexport. They are not even the official spokemen from Russia regarding China-Russia military cooperation. They just execute export order from Russia government regarding military export.

Look for official Russia government comment regarding all this matter. Putin government so far has no problem regarding Russia China military cooperation.
Rosoboronexport shall change to rosomoronexport for their jealousy of China military. :rofl:

Prelude of eventual merger like the European EADS, Russian United Aircraft Corp, or US Boeing-Douglas?

AVIC I and II merged a while back, I think last year.

AVIC I and AVIC II no longer exist. They re merged in 2008. Comac is a separate entity that is 20% owned by AVIC.

AVIC is being reorganized into semi-autonomous divisions:

AVIC Defense
Avicopter
AVIC General Aviation
AVIC Aircraft Systems
AVIC Aero Engine
etc...

People forget what the CCP means by "with Chinese Characteristics" ?

Currently China's aviation industry is collaborating with the top 3 largest aircraft manufacturers in the world, mainly Airbus, Boeing and Bombardier. They build complete aircrafts for Airbus, parts for Boeing and Bombardier. Instead of competing with them it acquires all their technology and designs all in a hub and then focuses it with their own manufactures like COMAC. Bombardier which is headquartered in my home town lives off government grants, Bombardier merely promises the government in creating local jobs, but in reality they source out all their manufacturing overseas and elsewhere, not one part of the C Series Regional jet is made in Canada, of course this dirty little secret is never mentioned in local news !, it merely gets assembled here hence the justification for those government grants. Just look at the ARJ 21 it is a copy of the Bombardier RJ-21 since Bombardier transferred its technology in return for labor and manufacturing the various parts of the RJ. In my view COMAC and other Chinese manufacturers will be major players within the next 10 years and move into number 3 or even 2 spot displacing Bombardier and Boeing and finally Airbus !

The sections of the Bombardier C-Series Regional Jet, in red are components all made by Shenyeng in China

Does anybody have a link to that article about that delegation of Russian aerospace engineers shopping around a Chinese air show (I think it was Zhuhai 12010) for Chinese avionics and electronics? I lost my bookmark for it

I am willing to bet AVIC doesn't even have a blueprint of "5th generation" fighter on their table even right now - and it won't until 2020 or later. It will have to wait until it digested the lesson from 3rd/4th generation, and learn from video and abroad the Russian/American 5th generation before it can even try to attempt on its own.

I guess I have to eat my words! Today's J-20 test flight surely leaves no doubt that CAC is hard at work and surprise EVERYONE including every western analysts and pentagon officials.

Congratulation of China's achievement. I am ecstatic to see such progress!

BEIJING — China’s Avic Defense will use rapid prototyping centers like the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works for future military aircraft developments, with the aim of overcoming what it says are inefficient production processes.

The prototyping centers are being set up at the fighter plants at Shenyang and Chengdu, the latter of which has just begun test flying the large J-20 combat aircraft.

The statement by Avic Defense President Wang Yawei is a hint that work on the J-20 or the earlier J-10 could have been smoother, although he does not name any particular project. He blames long development cycles on the competition for resources at major plants.

Wang is critical of the Chinese industry’s traditional separation of design and manufacturing, with research institutes distinct from factories. “This has affected the efficiency of aircraft development,” the executive says in an interview with International Aviation, the Chinese partner of Aviation Week.

Within Avic Defense, only the Hongdu Group at Nanchang has unified development and production facilities. “In Chengdu, Shenyang and Guizhou, the design institutes and factories are separated,” he tells International Aviation reporter Zhang Zhengguo.

So Avic Defense is forcefully pushing the integration of design and production in its facilities, following the lead of foreign companies. It also is following a foreign lead in setting up the rapid prototyping centers.

“At the beginning of the rationalization effort, Avic Defense raised the question of how to unify design and production, especially with regard to raising the low efficiency for new aircraft programs,” he says. “In the past, low efficiency was caused by mingling trial production with volume production. The two often competed for resources in machining, subassembly, final assembly and other work, resulting in long development cycles for new aircraft.

“In contrast to this, the U.S. Skunk Works and [Boeing] Phantom Works are both independent trial-production centers. Russia also has independent operations for trial production. This method is worth borrowing,” he said. Wang did not say when the new facilities at Shenyang and Chengdu would be ready.

Unmanned aircraft will be a new focus of Chinese military aircraft exports, he says, adding that China has made crucial but unspecified technological breakthroughs in the area.

In an attempt to revive this thread. Anyone have any information as to how AVIC's restructuring is going?

AVIC used to consist of over 200 research institutes, factories, and universities acting more or less independently. Since 2008, the Chinese government has been sweeping away the soviet style munitions dept and replacing it with a western-style business arrangement. AVIC is being divided into subsideraries to streamline its production. Please make any additions that I missed.
