Chinese 96-A

pretty amazing fire control computer
How did the 96A not win?

I didn't know that Russian fire control systems are that bad, this is a real surprise. Apparently they aren't able to fire accurately unless slowing down to walking speed???

Could it be partially due to the level of training the Russian has as compared to the Chinese?
Actually, i do not think so. The russian team should be the cream crop since they are the competition host. Apart from the obvious better chinese FCS, the chinese type 96a also fielded a higher velocity and flatter projectory gun. Not only does these conditions made the chinese tank more accurate, it also mean better penetration.

Russians did give worse tanks to all other countries who didn't bring their own tanks so you could say it was rigged from the start... specifically modified T-72 B3M for them and a lot worse T-72 variants for everyone else. I can only imagine how primitive FCS the other tanks in competition had.

Yes, other countries teams were allowed to drive around the place before competition, but it doesn't change the fact that Russians did give their team better tank and therefore giving their team better changes to win. Of course ZTZ-96A FCS was probably a surprise to them.

I wonder how the Type 96 Fire control computer compares to the M1A1 and Leopard:confused:
I hear the Abrams can fire while rolling at 35mph (speed limit of normal city street)

This is the only footage I have been able to find, but it doesn't really show the full potential

This first one looks more like a PR display so they crew probably weren't pushing their tanks and were playing it safe.

The part in this video that is relevant comes at around the 3.45 mark, and would appear to give a good indication of the best Japanese FCS can manage, which I would expect to be on par with the latest western systems.

Overall the 96 seems to be comparable to the Japanese tank, and I would expect it to be able to execute the swish back fire and evade manoeuvres the Japanese were doing with little difficulty.

The T72 isn't even in the same league on this front.

I think in any case you should compare the 99 or even the 99A with M1s and Leopards.....

Don't bully the poor 96A...

Unless the PLA decides to send the 99(A) to next year's tank biathlon to troll the Russians, the 96 is the only decent indication any of us have on the level of Chinese FCS on its frontline tanks.

Considering the 96 is supposed to be the low end of current Chinese frontline tanks, it looks like China is in a good place when it comes to tank FCS.

The biggest surprise is just what a gulf their is between Chinese and western FCS and Russian systems.
