China's transport, tanker & heavy lift aircraft

Will the engine be indigenous Chinese ?

Very highly unlikely, since China has just put in a massive order for 186 D-30KP-2 engines, for IL-76 and H6, but that many engines is still too much for the IL-76 and H6 fleet alone so it must also be for Y-20, since WS18 is not ready I am sure that Y-20 will at the start take Russian engines

186 engines is enough to cover existing 20 or so il76 plus 8 more second hand ones that will soon be delivered. that is already some 110 engines. Plus, h6 has been now in production for some time. 3 regiments of 12 planes would mean additional 72 engines. That alone covers the whole 186 engine order.

So in my opinion that particular dk30 order is not for any sort of serial standard y20. Yes, a dozen engines may go to y20 program for powering the prototypes but nothing more than that. For serial production y20 there would have to come some other engines, either a new contract of dk30 engines or some other engine.

China got 55 from 2009 to 2011 for various programs. I presume these were for Y-20 projects prototypes + H-6K project and as spares IL-76. There are another 184 on the order (with 12 delivered so far). There should be enough in this order to cover some Y-20s. Remember, the second hand IL-76s were re-engined, got new wings and upgraded avionics. They don't need new engines.

in that case, it really depends on h6k production. how many planes were produced so far and how many are likely to be produced in the next 2-3 years. That is assuming y20 project finishes prototype testing within 3 years.

Hi guys (and gals ... if there are some here),

Is it true that Antonov is currently involve/advising/play some part in the development of the Y-20? If that is the case, is there any information (rumor, here-say, etc) that the PLAAF (might) have looked at the possibility of using the Ivchenko-Progress D-18T for the Y-20?

... they are still making the D-18T today right?

... both Antonov and Ivchenko-Progress are Ukrainian companies right?
