This above article looks surprisingly accurate. At least according to what we have seen thus far. Although, I am not sure about its assertion that antonov is doing most of the work.

We know very little of Y-20. Thats why this information looks accurate. But dont forget that russian sources are not reliable regarding chinese military and tend to downplay chinese capabilites. This article convey this tendency and thats why im suspicious about it. Everything in this article could have been made up, altough its quite possible that china is getting assistence in the Y-20 program, considering that they have never built a transport plane before.

They did, Y-9, Y-8 and they have overhaul IL-76. The only thing they lacks designing a plane as huge as Y-20. I wouldn't say Chinese is so novice in transport plane. Definitely not as experience as Europe, Russian and US.

although i do not under estimate Chinas avaition power and recently China has really done the number here especially in the last few years i dont think Y-20 will be flying anytime soon however i hope i am wrong

i think it wont be flying for a few months or years yet, maybe sometime in 2013

also there is every possibility that Ukraine has helped in the development of Y-20

but we are always open to suprises thrown by PLAAF and i really look forward to Y-20 it will be a remarkable day when it takes off, a military cargo which can shift 60 tons would be a awesome achivement just look at the time and problems Airbus A-400 has faced and it took best European military contractors to make it happen

China has released many fighters but this will be the first heavy cargo air lifter and for that reason i would put it right at the top of the list

with extensive experience and experimentation with Y-8 varients to progress and producion of Y-9, i think Y-20 will be a similar sucesss and allow China to establish a true airborne divsion for rapid deployment

Update on 2010 order for 10 used IL-76. It mentions that 3 may already have already been transfered for repair work. Anyone can provide a better translation?
