Is the Y9 just an enlarged Y8 or is it a new and mostly domestic design?

You already got the answer. In fact, it looks like an enlarged version of Y-8 but the amount of changes essentially can make it a new domestic design(New nose, lengthen airframe, new tail fin, new turbo prop, new digitize cockpit).

Otherwise they will not give it a new designation of Y-9, they could have give Y-8G, something like that.

Where is the proof that Y-9 is an enlarged version of Y-8?

I think Deino's description of it is pretty good.

overall length of the plane does seem to be the same or very similar. one can use existing images and superimpose one on top of the other - it becomes evident that the fuselage itself hasnt really been lenghtened. What is also evident, though, is that the front end of the plane was redesigned in such manner that the cockpit on y9 (and special mission next gen y8 planes) is moved forward, closer to the nose, when compared to older transport y8. Difference seems to be 1-2 meters. That suggests that the cargo cabin behind the cockpit may have been lengthened by those 1-2 meters.

The 2 helicopter models in the CG does not seem to have RCS reduction measures. Probably it's just a matter of wrongly using a picture that's unrelated to the matter of discussion?

Ok, just read Deino's post.

"It was a RCS-calculation and comparison of - like we said - the NH-90 & Blackhawk "

So, it's nothing to do with LO helicopter either.

We have a helicopter thread, all this posts will be moved there.

Your eyes must be very good, too, because I could not read the blurred number on that picture. asif iqbal probably means 10151, which would be 4 Div 10 Regt Qionglai (that is at least where I think the regiment is now).

2 Naval Avn Div 4 Regt Laiyang now has only Y-8J and Y-8W (= KJ200). Y-8JB have gone to 4 Div 6 Regt Tuchengzi, which also has Y-8X.
