And it is the beginning Beijing can tighten the screw even more just watch
Great advertisement from PRC towards Koreans with 'you're nothing' message all over. US never did that and they say that 'West' doesn't understand 'East'... And if any US diplomat believed that PRC can do anything about North Korea... they're doomed if they take things so easily. In fact they can do as much as US. Nothing.

You are really making too many mistakes here Janiz LOLOL. The report says that SK is losing roughly $7.5 bill while China is losing almost $1 bill but that report was issued by Hyundai and displayed on Arirang News; it has nothing to do with the PRC! Your hatred of China is leading you to make too many obvious and stupid mistakes. Additionally, its Korean source means that the numbers are likely skewed to look like China's suffering more than it is and SK is suffering less in order to try to coax China to end the actions. Hyundai suffered a 20% loss in sales and the last thing it wants to do is to issue a report telling China that its sanctions are really effective and painful so it should keep it cranking.

Korea profit massively with China trade. They form the largest contingent of foreign student in Chinese university . Because knowing Chinese is their ticket to good job. Some work for Korean Company in china some as liaison office back in headquarter. Nevertheless China provide them with job opportunity. Korea now has huge youth unemployment problem

So trading with China is a privilege and they should take into account China's interest. Specially when it come to security , there will be no compromise. Everything else is negotiable
If they blindly cross china;s interest they have to pay the price. Nothing unusual about it
There is so many Korean in Beijing they even have Korean town. China accommodate those Korean with aplomb. Just like between friend if you are unfriendly toward me why should I be your friend

Actually, I have another thought that I "prefer" THAAD to stay in SK for a period long enough for China to use as an excuse to displace and weaken SK's key business, namely Electronics and Cars.

This would sound selfish, but from a long term economy stand point, China is climbing the value chain ladder. A decade or two ago, China and SK are compatible where China makes low end product while SK makes the mid and high end. Today, China is moving to the mid and high, Chinese companies need market shares that and the first and biggest is Chinese domestic markets. The easiest targets to displace are SKs, natural targets. Although Samsung home electronics are among the top on par with Japan, but Chinese companies have been eroding that market for years, mobile phone and TV are good examples.

Overtly displacing SK companies would be against WTO rules, but undeclared political sanctions out of national security concern would shut everyone up. I would thank SK leaders for handing over their market shares to China. Hehe talking about shooting one's own feet.

So, basically what China's already doing with foreign online companies? Hide behind a political excuse to ban foreign firms while domestic ones like Weibo, Wechat, Bilibili, Taobao, and Baidu take over.

To be fair I think blocking foreign social media companies was, and remains as a very valid national security concern given the role of social media and big data in things ranging from propaganda, spying, artificial intelligence.

For the industries that taxiya mentioned, I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing to continue exposing domestic firms to controlled competition

Not really, I think a lot of company shot themselves in the foot when they did not want to play by Chinese laws, or sometimes ,poor business decision to begin with. Google is a prime example. If they had played ball with China, their market share will be huge.but now, they are known as insecure phones due to Google cannot be accessed from China and there is no playstore to provide safe apps. Another prime example was MSN. It was the dominant player in business and personal chat, and it was quite a hit when HTC windows phones was around. It literally destroyed itself when they didn't create any apps for Iphone and Android and pretty much barring it from other operating system, because they want it to be for Microsoft phone only. Skype went south because the program use way too much system resources at a time where smart phone had limited processing power and RAM. This lead to development of Whatsapp and Wechat. Wechat not just replaced MSN, but it replaced QQchat also, due to its simplicity. The other reason is because typing in Chinese is very slow, so wechat had a function that MSN had, was voice message, which literally turned the phone into walkie talkie. Whatsapp did not even had it initially and also did not have phone or video chat from the beginning.

When you are not catering to a market with different behavior, you loose out. You can see that Iphone played ball with the Chinese government and Wechat. Iphone just had a negative media in China. I can't remember exactly what it was, but it involved we wepay or other app breaking donations rules. The other app allowed Wepay to make donations which was a nono in the app store rule, but as you know, Apple just wanted to control the market, but they did not use their brain, since Wepay is a lot popular and much easier to use than Apple pay.

There's a grain of truth in what you say, but even with that, China is still more open to foreign companies than South Korea or Japan. Difference is, China is the biggest consumer market in the world, so restrictions on foreign companies cast bigger ripples then Japan and RoK combined.
