JIUQUAN, Gansu: China launched Wednesday a remote-sensing satellite, "Yaogan VII," from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern Gansu Province.
The satellite was successfully launched into the space on a Long March 2D carrier rocket at 4:42 p.m., the center reported.
It will be mainly used for scientific experiment, land resources survey, crop yield estimates and disaster prevention and reduction, according to the center.
The satellite was developed by the China Academy of Space Technology under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. The rocket was designed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, also under the corporation.
The flight was the 120th of the Long March series of carrier rockets.
says the accuracy of the military service is 0.3 m. Atomic clock and other core technology are developed indigenously, can send short text message to ground. It will form a network in 2015 along with Haiyang series, FY series, data relay satellites, reconnaissance satellites. Basically says by 2015, it will provide complete coverage of Western Pacific Ocean for precision weapons.
Although the US has a 40+ year head in space travel, the only accomplishment China has to meet to be equals is land a man on the moon, pretty amazing considering between 2003 to 2008 they got up this fast !
I cant agree with you on that point. While not wishing to make light of China's space achievements, it has had Russian help, while the Americans had to start from scratch and they have gone on to do a lot more than land on the moon.
Bladerunner you should give credit where credit is due. Aside from docking mechanism and Soyus shell the Chinese did everything themselves even the space suit they have their own version. And your assertion that US did everything themselves is nothing but delusion. If you go to NASA office back in 60's and look at the name plate in their office almost all of them have German name If you don't believe me just google operation paper clip. US imported wholesale the German rocket engineering design group in Pneemunde They even carted the V2 rocket back to US
There is no Soyuz shell involved, as the Shenzhou spacecraft is bigger than the Soyuz. The docking mechanism is an international "standard".Aside from docking mechanism and Soyus shell the Chinese did everything themselves even the space suit they have their own version.
US brought a lot of NK-33 and NK-34 engines from Russia back in the 90's. These are oxygen-rich engines long been asserted by American engineers as being impossible to built. This shows just because US hasn't done something, that does not mean it is impossible to do.And your assertion that US did everything themselves is nothing but delusion. If you go to NASA office back in 60's and look at the name plate in their office almost all of them have German name If you don't believe me just google operation paper clip.
