In an attempt to take attention away from the SCS agreement scandal, Philippine officials are demanding the expulsion of Chinese diplomats in the country. So it looks like fresh provocations againts China will continue in the short to medium term.

There is an estimated 200 thousand Filipino nationals working in Hong Kong, i do not have data about Filipino workers in Mainland China, but perhaps China can use this as leverage to put pressure on the Philippine government. The Muslims were quite successful in this approach, recall that there are thousands of Filipino workers in the middle east, as a result, muslim lobbying were able to use this to extract concessions from the Philippine government to grant demands from muslim separatists in southern Philippines, as well as enact certain policies that give special treatment to Muslims in general in the Philippines. This is what ethnic Chinese in the Philippines should do as well, form political blocks that can muster enough influence and power to extract concessions from the Philippine government.

I don't think it's the style of China to use innocent people as bargaining chips. It's too humanistic and does not go to that low.

Not sure if this move is aimed at intimidating China but I'm pretty sure it will have no such effect

Unless the U.K. JAPAN are going to have an all SOCIETY mobilization and are prepared for a future conflict that's going to determine the next world order then I just don't see how this MARKETING ploys by these nations are to be taken too literally.

These actions are designed or intended to shore up the public support in the PH to essentially volunteer as the next Ukraine. This action ITSELF is trying to bait the Chinese leadership a more aggressive posture or make a preemptive action ala Russia vs Ukraine redux. That way the west can enact their Economic blockade because it worked well against Russia.
This is more of an insult to the intelligence of the Chinese leadership as if to suggest that they're as reckless and dumb as the Russians; attacking an opponent with severe unpreparedness and underestimation of Ukraine resolve/esprit de corps.
