Confused if it was on the 2nd March or 1st March. I saw clips of 5 airmen’s return to their hometown/family so far and 1 had a plaque stating 2nd March.

It happened on March 1st. Recovering the bodies and sending them back to their respective home towns took a while longer.

Unfortunately, it seems the leadership of the Philippine military is severely compromised by 5th column agents, these are probably generals and other mid to high ranking officials who received military education in the US and have since maintained contacts with their handlers in the states.

I was kind of hoping that Marcos will maintain Duterte's independent foreign policy, but its becoming clear that non of the presidential candidates have a China friendly (or neutral) policy.

If they do that they will be complete idiots. For the US the Philippines is nothing but a military base and source of muscle.
The US has long stopped knowing how to build things. They can't even build things in their own country let alone someone else's.

Politicians say all sort of things before an election. Let's see what they say once they get in power and have to deal with the reality of china's power. Stay engaged with their leaders and make it very clear the consequences if they agree to edca and go from there.

If they are not willing to negotiate on south china sea, then things just stay the way they are. As best as they could, keep up with military hardware transfer to their military. The only way china can gain influence there is by keeping up with the engagement with them.

@PhSt they're nearing retirement and when they retired they become politician....lol Bro our system because of the callousness of our Traditional Politician, we look to the military for guidance, being discipline we hope that they may reshape our politics and how wrong are we....lol the best example is electing Trillanes (protest vote) and look what he had done, he make the senate , A Circus! he alone make the performance of Cirque du Soleil lame....lol

For ASEAN nations like Philippines, the stark reality is that foreign relation is crafted based on economic dependency, not by military concern. No matter what power the 5th column agents has over their military ranks, American is increasingly failing behind(vis-à-vis China) when it comes to economic linkage with the Philippines. One can try to mask it over by focusing on "security" concerns, but at the end of the days, the mass' main concern is all about putting food on the table, rising income and economic development none of which is on the offer list from America.

The Phillipines are constrained by their geography kind of like Indonesia. They will always be constrained to follow whichever is the greatest naval power around. As an archipelago they are susceptible to naval blockades. So China just needs to prove they have a bigger naval stick than the US and I think they will get into line. Even the US trained ones.

Indeed, and in the coming decades, economic development and other social welfare metrics will take more of precedent than some perceived threat or over some small islands far off the coast. We're now just seeing the beginning of the threat posed by climate change compounded with Covid disruption, like crop failures, increasing drought, water and food shortages, increasing periods of deadly "wet bulb" temperatures.

China should take these variables in account for their strategies in the future, leave no opportunity arising from tragedy to waste. But also look after themselves, to reduce or prevent the negative effects climate change can bring.

Also it sucks for me, as I live in PH. The weather lately has been getting really hot, and I fear for what's to come this year's summer, and the hell that might be brought by El Niño next year. Food and gas prices has gone up as well.
