That's not really a Philippines only thing, if you ask me. But I agree many global south countries are still mentally colonized.Just look at their supposed Independence Day celebration, the Philippines for some weird ass reason chose to celebrate an Independence day based upon the date that they supposedly gained independence from Spain while at the same time being occupied and colonized by the Americans from 1898 till July 4, 1946. The Americans have thoroughly brainwashed the Philippines into believing that their mission in their country was noble and did not act as their colonial master hence in my opinion they have lost the simple truth that the Philippines was an American outpost even to this day. But in the minds of many, that's more than okay.
What most people think of independence is sometimes not really independence. What they got was their own flag, their own currency and language, everything that makes a nationalist happy and that is usually why the US will choose nationalist reactionaries.. But the resources are still exploited by pro western companies and probably owned by western financial institutions who are most likely majority shareholders.
