South China Sea: British warships ‘didn’t sail near’ Chinese artificial islands

  • HMS Queen Elizabeth avoided direct challenge to Beijing’s territorial claims in the contested waters
  • Source close to the PLA says Chinese military is ‘satisfied’ with Royal Navy’s low-profile activities

I think the German frigate will do something similar. They will toe a thin line here by traveling to SCS to please the Americans but avoid traveling near Chinese islands and reefs (and make a port call at Shanghai) to please the Chinese.

Intriguing? US disapproval?

Only time war might happen, and that is a big If, is when China has comprehensively surpassed the US. And out of desperation, US provokes a war as a final bid to derail China's rise. That by itself should tell you a lot about who's winning this long game.

Some would argue that's exactly what we are seeing right now.

My worry is that the covid crisis will precipitate a more dangerous international climate.

Covid just sped up what's already been happening; this steady movement of power, wealth from the West to Asia and then Global South.

China's plan to team up with Russia and integrate entire Euroasia into one massive market with itself at the center will completely change global order. The US of course won't let that happen quietly. It will likely go to war to maintain it's hegemony. China understands the danger it faces in the next 5-10 years.

But the sun shone on Europe for 600 years, it is now moving back East. And in the distant future it may shine back on Europe again. That's the destiny of things or how balance is maintained, whatever you want to call it.

The only way it'll shine on europe again is if they join with Russia and China in a massive eurasian supercontinental economic bloc.
