China's SCS Strategy Thread

A very one-sided documentary by Channel News Asia of Singapore on the South China Sea issue:

I'm usually okay with CNA, but this is just low by their standards. Its sensationalist, its fear mongering of China, and its heavily one-sided. In particular, they almost exclusively covered 2 belligerent opponents to China in the SCS: The Philippines, and Vietnam.

Hi @ansy1968, do you know any information of these two people in The Philippines:
1) Gloria Ramos, Vice President of Oceania
2) Prof. Jay Batongbacal, Director, Institute of Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea, University of the Philippines.
Especially Prof Jay. That guy is very belligerent and is very critical of President Duterte.

I don't blame the fishermen in Vietnam and PH for hating China, they are all misinformed. The real culprits are their politicians, elites and their government for creating this false narrative of 'evil China'. I would like to call out this Prof Jay. He has been given a lot of air time in the documentary. This fool considers President Duterte China policy a failure, and advocates a more confrontational policy against China. He says that China don't respect Duterte, because he is 'soft'. China respects Indonesia because Jokowi was 'tough' on China. I call that nonsense. China respects Indonesia more because it has much less confrontations with Indonesia vs PH and Vietnam. Despite Duterte being friendlier to China, serious confrontations still occur between the 2 countries. But did Aquino's 'tough' policy on China worked? Hell no! His policy to confront China, and bring the SCS dispute to the Court of Arbitration provoked China to build up those islands in the SCS! The tougher PH is on China, the tougher China will be to the PH.

Zhang Hongzhou, Research Fellow from the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies rightly mentioned that the root cause of this fishing wars is this:
China offered joint development with all SCS claimants. But almost all of them are not willing to talk about it without discussions about sovereignty.

This is zero sum mentality.

China's '9-dash line' (was 11-dash line) was drawn when the ROC was still in power in China in 1947. This is not a CPC thing, its Chinese historical territorial claim. Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and others have not existed at that time. Could they have some historical claim before the age of European colonialism? Maybe, but it is up to these SEA countries to prove it. Otherwise, just sit down and negotiate a win-win deal with China. Bring in the UNCLOS and US Navy will only make China tighten its grip on the SCS. Its counter productive, its short-sighted, and its foolish.
Not according to one of arrogant morons who prides himself as some kind of a geopolitical savant in Mr. Richard Haydarian. On this virtual talk held by the National Committee on U.S. China Relations Mr. Haydarian exclaimed that China's use of historical defense with respect to it's claims in the South China Sea is apparently somewhat dubious "since countries like Indonesia and the Philippines have been fishing on this ocean for thousands of years." I chuckled when I heard his idiotic rant because the Philippines wasn't even a country that existed thousands of years ago whereas China has been around for eons. The dude's delusional pro-America rant acting like the Philippines is somehow an equal partner/ally of the U.S. that could readily demand the U.S. to do its bidding if only his country was run by smarmy pants like himself: a pro-American lackey; a fervent believer in Pax Americana. The man loves to hear himself speak like the shit that comes out of his mouth are actual wisdom.

Look the FIlipinos are a white worshipping people. Every thing asian is foreign to them. If you look half white, You're gold. Come to the Failipines and you will notice every woman has become blonde and bleached their skin.

anyways moron writes for the SCMP and is calling for a war on China lead by the USA. I think he has just way too many fans and is delusional plus there are 10 NED agencies working in the Philippines.

@Sardaukar20 bro these people had tasted fame and power during the Aquino years and they lost that under Duterte, the professor is from UP and that school produced a lot of activist and a recruitment ground for the NPA. Its kind of funny the communist allied themselves with the oligarch...hahaha only in the Philippines. I think Albert Del Rosario and his boss MVP (Manny Pangilinan) funded his campaign and it all started when MVP wanted an oil exploration in the SCS (REED BANK) and was prevented by China ( this the main reason why the SCS dispute happen, Its all because of a greedy oligarch, please check Tiglao article in Manila Times for more details) suddenly this professor started appearing and making noises about China and had become his calling card. While Richard Heydarian was the FACE of the new generation of journalist because of his fast and pretty English, a product of my alma mater DLSU his mestizo looks also helps, 2016 election was his calling for saying the right thing about Duterte, after that he begun to change his topic to the SCS cause the money is there to make. Many International think tanks sponsor him (one of them is ASPI), they need a pretty English native speaker as a poster boy and he fit the bill.
Haydarian is half-Iranian him being a half breed has become both his suit and armor in advancing his standings in the shallow and vainful socio-political environment.

Glad to see the Bolly Pantomime is finished.
Now it has, I will ask my question from yesterday again, although this time a bit more expanded.
I am fully aware that SCS Island basis have facilities for both Air Force and Navy to operate from, from I am curious to know, which branch of the PLA actually manages the Islands and their fixed Garrison duties?
Navy. The older photos showed everyone in smurf gear. So if you want to be specific, it's the marines in the Navy.

@duskseeker bro It hurts but its true, if you look at paintings and old picture you can see the battered face of the Filipino, slavery working from Dusk to Dawn in the open under the sun, it tax you physically and mentally and also the diet. The brown skin , the small Filipino physique compared that to the Spaniard and even the Chinese one can get where the inferiority complex comes from. But bro in our defense presently Filipina women are the best in the world, with mix race marriage, we had produce beautiful Mestiza with different mixture of race. You can distinguish Hua Qiao girls from that of greater China region, cause they both had the front and back bumpers...lol with goldilocks skin tone , not to white and not to brown just perfect...:) And also I almost forgot there is a Filipino thing called Macho (manly) well you know a term to cover up his small sized by being manly..lol dreaming of blond beauty is every Filipino man dream, its a way to cover up its inadequacy...lol

Regarding politics, Mestizo and celebrities had a greater chance being elected in office. Its sad but it is true. But Duterte change all that with his victory in 2016 and will be his legacy thru his performance.

You sound like you have been to the Philippines and or have been with a Filipino person that didn't turn out well. Like anywhere else the Philippines have great people and not so great people but unfortunately, due to the way that country is set up, the loudmouthes and the pretentious white worshipping sieves dominate the country which drowns out the people who wants to deliver the kind of structural change their country needs and in my opinion Duterte is the one sole aberration.

@ansy1968 you always crack me up with your comments about your country's politics and people. And even though you're ethnically Chinese your love of country, the Philippines doesn't wax or wane with the change of tides; what a fine trait to have.

@Bellum_Romanum bro I'm a proud Filipino but I'm glad I'm Chinese....LOL Its confusing but I had to give thanks to my adopted country for giving me the opportunity and accepting me. It s hard having to endure those suffering and discrimination but bro it made me grow as a person and for that I need to give something back to my fellow Filipino.
