a storm is brewing over the SCS, and the clouds are dark, thick and heavy.......Sigh.
just an old Chinese saying: " the tree (and the leaves) wants to stay quiet in peace, but the winds keep blowing "
If China cannot avoid the winds blowing from the west, then might as well prepare and get ready for the coming crisis.
I guess a certain big Island off the coast of Shanghai will be the first victim caught in the gaunlet.

ASEAN members need to look into history, it's never good when US get involved in the region, look at Middle east, Africa, Latin America, Northern Europe and Vietnam. Do not let US temp you with a picture that the grass always greener at their side, we do have to look too far into history just look into the recent state of Syria, Egypt, Libya and Iraq, before Arab spring and after Arab Spring, people are living 10 worst! WE can settle this amongst ourselves ( ASEAN + China) with a WIN-WIN. Asean members especially Vietnam should know better.

Kiss of the black widow spider comes to mind concerning what the US has done to these ME countries.
I hope ASEAN countries have the wisdom to discern this fact that the US is only interested in disrupting co-operation and prosperity within the Asian bloc. RCEP is an obvious target, and hence SCS troubles. Divide and rule, is a weapon US has honed to perfection.

I will tell you this guys. As I live in an ASEAN nation. anxiety here is pretty high, since trade and economic recovery is tied into this not going into a hot or cold war. If a hot war breaks out, I expect at least food trucks from the US government to feed SE nations. :)

Very well-said, couldn't agree more.

They are gearing up for war. The Us is also developing long range missiles of their own, and is trying to erase any tactical advantage China has regarding range.

US is provoking because it believes it can win. War is very possible.
The Neocon/Neolib US starting a war with China would be a tragic miscalculation even if no nukes are ever involved. The US has little to gain to start a war with China (or Russia). The Neocon/Neolib US reminds me of Fascist Germany before the Invasion of the Soviet Union. Believing their own BS they made the tragic miscalculation of thinking they could knock out the Soviet Union in one massive blow within 3-4 months. This miscalculation led to mayhem unprecedented in scale and ultimately ushered in the end of that regime. The Neocon/Neolib US seems to be headed in the same direction with China and/or Russia. I hope more sensible , grounded in reality leadership will prevail in the US but I would not bet on it. The Neocons and Neolibs, who are both political fundamentalists and imperialists by nature, are running the show in the US and this is sadly unlikely to change any time soon.

Look at what’s happening on the ground. War is certainly possible.

1). US is flying weekly reconnaissance missions near Chinese coast, with several coming within 45 miles off of Shanghai!

2). Forming a coalition of allies and a combined force in the SCS. Both Australia and US officially declared they will not recognize china’s SCS claims. This move is symbolic but the message is clear

3). Pentagon officials were recently in Beijing to make sure that regional war do not escalate into full scale nuclear war. So very sly of the US. It wants to attack China but wants to do so at its own terms.

The goal is to either: 1). Provoke China and spark a limited war or 2). Combined forces evict China from the SCS islands. Do all this before the November election.

The Chinese answer to these provocations should be to show restraint.

No. China must not shoot first. It must not be provoked into a war.
