If they're offing Duterte there's going to be instability they might not control. They will most likely keep using lawfare against him and his VP daughter.

One scenario playing in my head - China giving the PH humiliation at the levels of what the UK dished out to Argentina could possibly trigger a concerted movement against the government.
Just demonstrate that BBM Jr is getting more and more desperate by the day.

That is why the 2025 election is very crucial to Marcos, like his father, he is reintroducing the 3 G's, Gold, Goon's and Guns, he already use gold to buy some politician and the media, goons like using state institution to intimidate the opposition BUT he had trouble using the guns cause he can't buy the loyalty of the rank and file in the military. There are fissures appearing within the AFP between the Generals (who are indebted to Marcos and politician for their promotion) and the Junior officers (Colonel and below). And another thing those in the Military doesn't respect him, having realize he is not like his father with his mediocre and incompetent leadership.

After the 2025 election Marcos will be a lame duck president cause whatever the result he isn't allow to run again. The political coalition he had establish will come crushing down cause most of them are thinking about the Presidential election in 2028. If the VP and her party are able to perform well then he will be on a very tight spot cause his allies will desert him.

So What will happen to BBM? For me as a political analyst , he had done good as he had already achieved what he promise to do which is to rehabilitate his family name and their wealth, Anything more like extending his term will only damage his accomplishment so he will go out silently and finished his term. He had NO more ambition cause he know he isn't capable of doing so.

Bro for China, the Philippine is insignificant, In ASEAN only 2 country matters that is Indonesia and Thailand. Why would the Chinese goes to great lengths to humiliate the Philippine were from their point of view they were a liability to the Americans, they were already check mate them in the SCS with those artificial Island making it a Chinese lake. And also from the eyes of the ASEAN, the Philippines is a trouble maker by inviting a nuisance in their neighborhood without consulting them.

So they are hitting these Malaysian companies for allegedly selling ball bearings to Russia. They must think Russia cannot produce ball bearings if they wanted to.

It is true that most of the ball bearing industry in Russia was destroyed in the 1990s economic depression post Soviet collapse, but ball bearings aren't as hard to make as some people think. The main issue is making them as smooth as possible, this requires extensive quality control. But even lower quality ball bearings can be used if you replace them more often.

I fully expect black market companies to start hiding their traces, using the wrong export codes, using different payment mechanisms, etc.

Depends on the kind of ball bearings actually.

Speciality ball bearings, for example the kind used in modern turbofan engines, are extremely difficult to make and reach acceptable QC levels.

I doubt those are imported. Since we are talking about the MIC here.

Russian MIC imported a lot things it shouldn’t have, due to the dire economic situation of the 90s and early 00s. There are plenty of examples even in recent years where they have major arms programs significantly delayed due to sanctions of key western components.

I don’t think the Americans are stupid enough to piss off the Malaysians with sanctions to stop the Russians from buying easily replaceable bearings.

These bearings are likely easily sourced from Russia’s existing main supplier of all things dual use, but there will likely be cost and timing implications or else the Russians wouldn’t be buying from Malaysia in the first place.

Actually the major blockage was in importing components from countries formerly in the Soviet Union like Ukraine. The claim that Western imports were a major stumbling block is bollocks. The Soviet Union had a closed economy so they did not import much of anything. Russia inherited most equipment and facilities from the Soviets but not all of it.

This was done because of "brotherly relations" with Ukraine. Well Russia basically gave them gas for next to nothing in exchange for these imports.

For whatever reason people seem to think that Russian imports all go to the MIC. It is way more likely these ball bearings are going to the automotive sector to produce civilian vehicles.
