China: how about we compromise? We would be happy to dismantle part of our nuclear arsenal by self destructing them over the U.S. missile sites in the Philippines and thereby saving you the trouble of removing them yourself.
I don't think a nuke is needed to silence these fat politicians and generals forever. Just a well-aimed conventional one will do.

In a way, America’s ‘strategy’ is pathetically transparent and one dimensional in the SCS, which basically boils down to, fuck around without finding out.
This is why they are so desperate to set guardrail and hotlines, so they can salami slice right up to the red line without crossing it. Because at the end of the day, neither China nor America actually gives a shit about Philippines enough to want to fight over their greed.
The problem is China has also been ridiculously transparent in its own desire to avoid conflict, which has only emboldened America to act more rashly.
But the unavoidable truth with human nature is that we only respect power and violence. The big boss can only afford to act civil because it has already demonstrated beyond all doubt its capacity for extreme violence. Without that contrast, others do not see your restrained as restrained, just weakness.
I think that soon, Beijing will need to make a decision to kill a chicken to avoid the monkey getting any ideas. I think that decision might be deferred until after the November US elections, but before the January inauguration.
I think preparations are being made to prepare for a lesson to ge taught then, when China will know who America’s next leader will be, but before they take power so that it can best calibrate the action to resonate with them without trapping their whole terms foreign policy with this one act.
If Trump wins, China will offer him a reset to allow him to blame it all on Biden and Harris. If Harris wins, then this would be clear signal that China has had enough of their brand of bullshit and that further encroachment along the same lines will not be tolerated for another 4 years.

Let them ignite a war in Middle East and then the US will be forced to direct resources there to protect and help it's dear child.

I think China is at the real hard power stage where these things are more viewed as bonuses that it would happily take if it happens, but it’s not something it’s counting on, so if it has made up its mind, it’s going even if not all of the stars are perfectly aligned.
In a way, I almost suspect that China is actually pushing for Iran to hold rather than commit, and if anything, Iran and Israel going all out might be the kind of significant development that causes China to reconsider its own move.
This is because the primary purpose of making an example is to force America to back down and undermine its security guarantees to the rest of its pawns in Asia.
A full blown ME war would give America and its apologists enough of a figleaf to spin it as China taking advantage of a once-in-a-generation freak event to excuse America backing down. That will very much undermine the desired impact of the lesson and make the costs far less worthwhile.
