That's a good one, bladerunner.;)

But yes, buying a few of these might make the Europeans jelous, or will at least provide them with an excuse to do some business of their own.

Asking for a few more S-70 helicopters would have been more useful, but the Chinese government keeps on buying civilian versions, so that's probably a moot point.

Also Harbin would not be happy if that happened.

I agree with rhino, I think China and the U.S. had already started consultations before, it's mostly like Premier Wen Jiabao attended the United Nations conference in New York and met with President Obama to decide the deal.
First China want to buy C-130, and then Obama will write the letter to the Congress, if China does not want to buy it, how would Obama do this? He is the president, he is not a fool.
Y-9 just in assembly, flight test phase, It still needs quite more time to be mass production, China buy a batch of C-130, dosn't mean kill Y-9.
and this deal just the start, China will buy more U.S products, the U.S should not think China is the enemy.

Plus with the waiver of the C-130, it means that arms embargoment are coming to its end, even if this C-130 was more or less for civilian usage and not military.

Eh, I think you're reading far too much into this.

First, asking for an exemption so that China can use C-130s for emergencies is not the same as signalling an end to an overall embargo.

Second, Obama could not end the embargo himself, he would need Congress on his side - which would be virtually impossible on this issue.

Third, Obama would be exposing himself to mass unpopularity for even proposing such a thing.

Whilst this is a very positive gesture on America's part, it really is only a gesture. And I'm sure that China asked for it/has accepted it already, as I don't see why Obama would have made it if he didn't think Beijing wanted it.

agreed
china can still use/benefit from buying the hercules and incorporate it into their strategic airlift ability all the while using the Y-9
just still a bit surprised from this deal out of nowhere. it's like," im gonna contain ur ass in your yard, but say, do u want a bbq wing? i roasted it myself"

what i think china needs as well will be helicopters. say, those black hawks are aging right?:D:nono: (sorry but i really love the black hawks. i think china should produce something of equivalent)

There was likely a concilliatory move by China to address the concern of the U.S. on their trade imbalance. The transport plane deal was probably one of the ideas resulting from it, one which Obama found more reasons to agree to than do decline. Strategically, it's not a concern since China already have the ability to manufacture transport planes. Furthermore, it's not like there's a lot of other stuffs that China can trade with the U.S. because of the embargo. Better to make sure that the foreign exchange comes back to you than for it to go somewhere else.

howcome your post was the same that i've read yesteday? like, almost the exact same wording, like u remembered word by word of what you've written. and that's just scary

Actually I think what you have read before is exactly the same thread as what you have read now. Poyeye just merge the two thread together.

Thats because hes got a photographic memory, boy he must have passed his exams easy:D

Er... actually I flunk a few of my exams during my schooldays... Damn! I should have major in History rather than engineering.

LOL agree
dont show him your credit cards:rofl:

Funny... I couldn't even remember my Aust mobile number much less credit card number.

But seriously... I was looking forward for the congress to lift the embargoment. Seriously, it did nothing only to slow some R&D of China and blackup what US could have know of China's military capability.
