French fashion brand Dior encountered controversy again on Chinese social media platforms as some Hanfu lovers accused the brand of copycatting the design of traditional Chinese horse face skirt in its fall 2022 collection without clarifying the source of inspiration.

Controversy roared Friday afternoon after some users of China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo published posts on the platform revealing that a skirt Dior released recently in South Korea seemed to look very similar to Chinese traditional horse face skirt.

All these western premium brands are totally expendable. However it will take time until they are replaced. Hard to change people's minds.

Due to China's rise, Chinese design aesthetics are starting to become more mainstream. However this isn't necessarily a good thing as this incident shows. Western companies can copy elements from Chinese hanfu and profit off of it, while simultaneously erasing its actual origin. At the end of the day, western companies get the money and credit, while China gets nothing (no money, no credit).

This is something that China/Chinese companies need to be wary of. The most important thing is to make sure anything that's related to Chinese culture is always linked to China. Don't let other companies and countries steal your work.
