... According to the US government itself blah blah blah

Zero proof behind statements. America is doing this to increase hostility, since they're a nation of blamers not doers. They can't fix their own disease problems so go around trying to force other places to accept more of them and their spying consulates.

China should close every US consulate except the Beijing one, where personell should be subject to strict security check when leaving and entering, they only ever brought trouble.

According to the NY Times, China's consul general was caught giving documentation with fake birth dates to Air China at Houston's airport. Not sure what this is about. Houston is the center of a large Medical Center where they may be doing research on coronavirus (?)

Either way these amateurish attempts to skirt rules and regulations have got to stop. The other day there was a Chinese student who actually emailed the Chinese Embassy saying she was a PLA operative. As if that communication is not going to be intercepted. Then tried to delete it from her hard drive but forgot even fully deleted files can be recovered.

The real victims of all these are going to be ordinary Chinese people and others in the Southeast who need normal consular services like passports and bureaucratic paperwork, the Chinese American community, and friends of China in the US South region. I have always been clear. China's policy should be (a) gradually move towards deescalation and improve relations with countries overseas that are willing (b) understand foreign countries (c) grow the size of the Chinese population at home & the overseas population abroad.

The latter is very important as they can help China's exchanges, technological, and business development. Currently the situation is not good for overseas Chinese and not good overall towards these goals and heading in the wrong direction. It will be difficult for a long time.

The NYT article is pure nonsense that anyone with some intelligent could see through the lies. However, many people don't seek truth but would rather believe anything anti-China no matter what. If that is what they came up with for justification of ordering closure of the consulate, then it shows that this is just a political attempt to help Trump election.

It is disguising that people would blame China for this. It is like someone beat the crap out you and you blame your parents for it. If those oversea Chinese people want China to sell out its national interest so they can have a better life in the West, then China is better without them. I am saying this as an oversea Chinese.

I have found no U.S. media which reported on this diplomatic conflict. Only Reuters and Asia Times noted it.

China's request to test and to quarantine for fourteen days everyone who is coming from abroad is not unreasonable. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut

for people coming from Florida and Texas. China has already had an expensive second outbreak with several hundred of cases in Beijing that was traced back to a visitor from abroad. It does not want another one.

The U.S. says that its diplomats are immune under the Vienna Conventions. But Chinese officials claim that the virus is not a party of those agreements. They insist that legal and disease immunity are

I didn't say the NYT was true. Just saying that's what they claim and I have no idea what it's about. Alternative theories is that it's related to the election (Texas is becoming a battleground state) and that it's related to US demands over the Wuhan consulate. Those are both possible. The reality is we don't know why this happened.

Ordering a closure of a consulate is a huge escalation of bilateral relationship. What the NYT reported is just a nonissue. It is a totally different magnitude and irrelevant. It is like trying to justify a death sentence for a parking ticket violation. Your initial accusation is uncalled for.

It is not a complicated situation. Throwing a tantrum and hissy fit is a hallmark of this administration. Whatever the reasons, the goal is to help Trump election.

I have to say, some of these "Chinese spies/information gatherer/'tourist'" caught by security around bases really do some dumb things to get caught. Many times, they seem to have been at least warned once to stay away but they still wonder back.

Is this part of the game played by USA and Taiwan in goading China?

Taiwan’s parliament passes proposal to rebrand China Airlines
  • Transport ministry ‘should make CAL more identifiable internationally … to protect Taiwan’s national interests’, lawmakers say
  • China Airlines (CAL) is frequently mistaken for Air China – the mainland’s national carrier

The bold Eagle keep poking at Panda soon the Panda will strike hard at the Eagle.

This is a publicity stunt, aimed at helping Trump with his campaign. If China strikes back by closing embassies in return, it will help Trump with its election campaign and not winning anything back.

I doubt that, Trump is already very unpopular at home. China striking back will also hurt the US economy that's already been ravaged even further. All this does will get more trump followers to become more racists towards Asians and Asian Americans here in the states. As result he will lose not only the majority Asian voters but other minorities as well because of the BLM movement.
