This is the first time I have seen an anti-ship weapon on the 052C... and its definitely not a YJ-83, the fins are near the back, so yeah I'd say YJ-62 is confirmed.
There have been pictures of the YJ62 being launched posted before. Its the second picture that looks really interesting, as you can see at least 3 separate sea skimmer intercepts in quick succession from the missile contrails, with a four missile in the air. My guess would be that its a 054A, although its hard to tell for such because of the smoke.
never knew chinese ships had anti-missile capabilities
I believe he meant the skimmers intercepting ships rather than missiles. I wonder PLAN's anti air missiles are capable of intercepting AShM as well.
China fields her own "Aegis System". Shouldn't it be capable of intercepting subsonic cruise missile at the very least (as in point defence guns/missiles)?
Are you guys joking? The PLAN has been able to intercept incoming AShMs for decades. The HHQ7 is a pretty effective point defense missile. The new HQ16 and HQ9 are also able to engage cruise missiles.
There have been official releases of HQ-16's results against different types of missiles including supersonic and sea skimmers. Consider that these missiles have ties to Sea Crotale and shtil, which are known to have capability to do so comfortably, I don't see why you would think HH-7 and HQ-16 can't.Obviously it shouldn't be a problem to engage subsonic cruise missiles flying at higher levels that attack fighters normally operate. I was talking about those AShM that skims close to the sea surface right from their start of their journey. From the tone of your response, I'll have to take your word that PLAN's anti-air missiles have no problem taking out such low skimming AShM missiles.
