Does anyone know what happened to Kalec? He hasn't been around since late-November last year.

Kinda missed his posts on the Chinese ballistic missiles development.

I have even read somewhere, don't remember the source, that the Chinese use vegetation to cover the silos of df-5s. But in reality neither method will work because that spot was detected during construction and its coordinates have been observed. Since coordinates are known, covering silos by different means will not deceive Americans. Maybe, it can work against less developed countries, such as India, Pakistan, north Korea or even Russia.

Russia would be highly doubtful, North Korea certainly. The other nuclear nations in between are uncertain.

That's one of the major reasons that road mobile launchers still have a place. It would force the potential opponent to devote a large amount of resources to ascertain their location and operational status during any periods of high tensions. And would also provide a certain type of flexibility and survivability that other legs do not have (although it also has a lot of additional vulnerabilities).

The purpose isn't to conceal the location, it's to not let curious people mess with it from the ground. Ofc China and US mutually know eachothers major base coordinates, that's not the point.

The point is a random person (or even spy) cannot easily walk up and find the silo hatches.

Also to make it more difficult to ascertain the operational state of the silos in most circumstances.
