Good god, it's that infamous photo again... It was first thought to depict J-15, then J-31, now this J-11D. I mean the original picture could be unrelated to any of those projects of course, but its association with so many SAC projects is amusing.

I wonder what this J-11D means for the supposed AESA equipped J-11B.

There's an almost certain chance the actual plane will be very different from that image. The J-11D is unlikely to directly replace or supplement the Chinese J-11B, but rather it might as well be a cheaper sidekick for the J-20; if it can approach the PAK FA in terms of performance then they have a very dedicated stealthy striker. But again SAC is rumored to be building another FB22 type strike plane. The J-11D could be a contingency plan as well in case the other projects such as J-20 fall cold.

I agree, the D will likely be a Pak/Fa type machine, with forward lifting body shaping, possibly S ducts, reduced all flying vertical stabs, maybe not as radical looking as Pak/Fa, but very similar in kinematics, possibly with OVT, maybe running a domestic F-117s or AL-41??? brat

Update:

J-11D is based off the J-16, and will feature stealth characteristics of J-21. It will be based on the radar and flight control system of the J-16.

What is J-21?

If the Chinese had already spawed different J-1X designations for what are essentially different flavors of the Su-27 platform, don't you think something much more radical, like a Pak/FA would merit a totally new J-XX designation as well?

Well, may as well get what SinoSoldier posted visible here.

Supposedly (I believe) the J-11D.

interesting picture (drawing) but i am a bit skeptic they would go for that, J-21 seems much better in stealth to go for a wierd looking aircraft with conventional ogive radome, side inlets and integral configuration, it might be real who knows, but the aircraft looks a bit of a mismatch.

In my opinion it is fan art, but who knows realty sometimes is weirder than fiction

Anyone with an idea why this J-11 has such a strange radome ??? ... or is it simply an optical illusion ?

The drawing seems to resemble that old J-XX model undergoing wind testing in the late 1990s (which Fisher strangely put in a article alleging Chinese copying of the F-35).
