I was under the impression that although both F-15SK and F-15SG were based upon the F-15E airframe, they were designed with airsuperiority in mind since they are the mainstay fighters for their respective nations. Other aircraft that entered the South Korean competition were the Su-35 and Eurofighter Typhoon. I think this is indicative of what South Korea was looking for.

They are designed with the secondary option of engaging in air to air combat. This simply means that they are able to fire guided air to air missiles and have some form of airborne radar.

Well , F-15 was originally designed with "Not a pound for air-to-ground" philosophy . F-15E was developed from two-seater F-15B so aircraft retains a lot of its air-to-air capability . Kinetically , F-15s are behind Su-27 family and even Americans admit that :

The US Air Force claims the F-15C is in several respects inferior to, or at best equal to, the MiG-29, Su-27, Su-35/37, Rafale, and EF-2000, which are variously superior in acceleration, maneuverability, engine thrust, rate of climb, avionics, firepower, radar signature, or range. Although the F-15C and Su-27P series are similar in many categories, the Su-27 can outperform the F-15C at both long and short ranges. In long-range encounters, with its superiorr radar the Su-27 can launch a missile before the F-15C does, so from a purely kinematic standpoint, the Russian fighters outperform the F-15C in the beyond-visual-range fight.

Still , these are very capable fighters and should not be underestimated in air-to-air combat .

Still , these are very capable fighters and should not be underestimated in air-to-air combat .

Let's not forget that all the countries which use F-15s (US, Israel, Japan Singapore, Saudi Arabia) also have very mature and robust C4ISR and air defense systems which exponentially increases the ability of the Eagle.

Also outside of the USAF, these F-15s are used primarily for defensive purposes as well. Israel is the exception (defensive + offensive) however the distances that IAF Eagles fly is usually well within reach of it's C4ISR and Israeli air defence umbrella. It will be extremely rare if ever to see F-15s flying and relying strictly just on themselves in any sort of operations.
Comparing the abilities of the F-15 strictly on it's own merit makes for interesting and fun academic discussion however in real world operations that is really not that important. In the real world F-15s will be part of a force multiplier operations.

The countries that fly F-15s also have other make as well and any operation will be a combo of these aircraft types also eithe rin hi-hi, hi-lo mix etc to maximize effectiveness.
