People speak easily about serial production of aircraft, today for example wrt J-15, but it more practical to produce Flankers in batches, as happens with J-10. As Totoro explained it in #3642 of the current J-10 thread:

it is more likely it denotes fourth batch, eight plane. 6th batch had 40 planes, earlier ones should have less.
This is even more relevant for Flankers as there are four variants in production or soon to be in production - J-11B, J-11BS, J-15 and J-16. They can be produced in the same plant in succeeding batches of what size? 20?

I would say that the production rates for J10A and Flankers is about 25-30 aircraft each per year

the 6th Regiment of J11B is due soon and so is J10A Lot , therefore i would think that J15 and J16 production rates will be low unless they are going to be built in a different factory

if they make 25-30 aircraft per year for each aircraft it means more like 120 new aircraft joining the PLAAF every year!!!! J10A, J11B/BS, J15 and J16, currently the rate if half that

there is a production limit for SAC. 30 per year is probably currently the limit to the number of flankers that SAC can produce. ON the other hand, CAC can easily crank over 40 imo if it has 2 dedicated production lines for J-10s.

Does China actually order and induct 50 to 70 fighters each year ?

China to Buy Latest Su-35 Fighters from Russia

Sorry, not buying it...and neither is China.

The PRC is producing J-11B, J-11BS, J-15 and now J-16...not to mention the J-10s and the prototype work going on with the J-20 and J-31.

Makes no sense to add a Russian made aircraft to that mix.

But the article makes no reference to the number of aircraft, and talks about more negotiations to "finalize" things. Which measn to me that this is just hype and that there is no deal at all.

Sort of like:

"Hey, did you hear about the "deal," where Russia agreed to build new aircraft carriers for China? Nuclear aircraft carriers at that. No number of carriers was mentioned and no time frame or cost was anouunced, but they reported that they are going to meet again sometime in the future to begin discussing those details."

I considered one possibility for why China would buy Su-35s. If SAC is at capacity with J-15 orders, it could make sense to buy Su-35s in order to fill a hole in procurement for the PLAAF.

Oh my god no, ... that nasty "menstruational-news" is back again !:mad:

Deino

It looks like that report provides important information, at least...
1. The story came from an officer of Russian government.
2. The purchase stage was shifted to commercial terms negotiation from political bargaining. The number of first batch and/or optional batch is not determined yet.
3. Su-35BM would not be built or assembled in China.

Why would China go for small number of Russian fighter with dependence on engine, avionics and weapons while it is able to produce inhouse? Surely the Russians would love to sell... But it is kind of irrational for China to go back a few years in development... As far as I am informed the Chinese are looking beyond J11 and inhouse stealth variant. Might be J31 variant or something else.
