This should answer your question.

As for the J-10B being photographed with AL-31, it is merely an old prototype. You can tell by the lack of extrusion in front of the canard. As far as I know, there is no known prototype built after 1035.

Hi Engineer,

Thanks for posting the photo of "554" (test unit?). However, I am referring to the new batch of production J-15 (or what are supposed to be the new batch of production J-15). So far, I have not seen the engine part on any photo of new J-15. I was referring to the images from the video of a J-15 (in yellow) in a hanger with J-8 next to it, and now the recent photos. Just wondering if Shengyang is doing this on purpose... you know, keep us guessing and all.

I was under the impression that the recent photos of the J-10B is new production unit. That says a lot about me reading details on post doesn't it :p. Honestly I am mostly interested in seeing new photos of military equipment here.

Pre production unit, actually.

Where have you guys heard that J-15 is in production or even pre-production stage? The J-15 has yet to perform landings and takeoff with weapons, so there should still be a long way from being serially produced.

There is a sign in this picture that cannot be ignored. Before you put an engine in a naval fighterjet you better know it works fine. To me this means that this engine has matured enough. It will be only matter of time before planes like F10B gets this engine. And maybe that is the reason that PAF J10B is delayed a little bit. Everyone can understand the priority of this naval jet and the need to be tested on this plane and have it in good numbers...

I'm quite certain that the J-15 is in Low Rate Initial Production or LRIP as is the F-35, and theres no reason that it shouldn't be, it is after all another Flanker variant and if was in production at Boeing or LockMart it wouldn't have a different numerical designator, it would the J-11 F or G or whatever. My point is that its perfectly legitimate to place it in low rate production as that is what is occuring in most of the world of very expensive military equipment, it accomplishes two things, saves money? ah maybe not really! It gets your equipment "out there" so that you can debug it and the operators can find the flaws before you have set your design in concrete. I do understand your concern, I have similar concerns about the F-35 and your concern is legitimate, so ? cheers AFB

i know you just want to see them lined up pretty on the Liaoning CV, Brat!

what's your view on J-15's avionics?

With what I have personally seen in JF17, heard what FC20 has and knowing they are busy with J20 and J31... There is no chance to still agree with that Chinese produce inferior parts.

Does anyone has an image of that particular J-15 (or any new J-15) that shows its engine? Just trying to confirm if they are installing Ws-10a on production build J-15 or will they have decided to go with Al-31 (?).

AFAIK russia wont allow china to install AL-31 on J-15, just like J-11B.

Russia never block the engine for J-15. All the while its sukhoi stand on J-15 as illegal. But the final call is still with the Duma and not individual company.

Russia just delivered the new batch of AL-31F engines to China. Once it reaches Chinese hand, how can Russian ensure which aircraft its engines are going to install on???
