yes and everyone is screaming for confirmation and more details.I call on Turkish citizens to help with this as there just might be more info available to them.It would be very interesting to find out more.

I asked Turkish natives on Pak Defence and so far the only sources they've been providing are still rehashes of the same articles. I think we need to wait a bit longer until we get official confirmation from both China and Turkey.

Iran opens airspace to China warplanes

Sun Oct 3, 2010 6:40PM

The Islamic Republic of Iran has reportedly opened its airspace to Chinese warplanes taking part in joint military maneuvers with Turkey.

Ankara and Beijing conducted the drills in Turkey's Central Anatolia region last month.

The war games, codenamed the Anatolian Eagle, were the first involving Turkey and China. Turkey had previously carried out Anatolian Eagle maneuvers with the US and other NATO members as well as Israel.

Turkish F-16, Chinese Su-27 and Mig-29 fighter jets took part in mock dogfights during the drills.

The maneuvers come ahead of a planned visit by Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to Turkey.

I don't know why they keep reporting Chinese MiG-29s. The MiG-29s participating in Turkey are from Hungary.

I think it is a case of stereotyping. Just like how people think AK when Chinese guns are mentioned people automatically think MIG when Chinese planes are mentioned.

So this is a three way exercise among China, Turkey, and Hungary?

I think the highest number they ever got on the migs is Mig-21, which they modified into J-7. After that the sino-soviet relation turned bad. It's not until the mid 90s that they started buying Su-27s.

from what I hear, it was su-27 that they sent over there. Really wasn't a huge deal from plaaf perspective. And it was also the earliest Russian made ones rather than later upgrades

Basic J-7 are basically reverse engineered Mig-21. It was the later variant, I think J-7E onward that are highly modified ones.
