Thanks for the photos maozedong, those photos are not the ones you would typically see in western news ;) (Yeah, yeah, I know, the Chinese news is even more biased, but that's a different topic).

While I'm all for human rights, freedom of religion, and more freedom in Tibet, I was saddened by the violent protests in Europe. Arn't those people suppose to protest for peace and freedom? Then please act the same way. What's the point of beating a torchbearer in Wheelchair?

Lets make few thing clear: We already closed on tibet thread as it was impossible of you guys to discuss without emotions over that matter and apparently some of you may think that this thread could give you a sort of backdoor for same BS as was withnessed in the earlier thread. That isen't going to be.

I just deleted one of the most imature posts that have appeared on this thread and warnings will be issued. For ye rest of you lot: Altough mentioned earlier that none can say what others can post or not...well that was just us mods being nice...

...It ends now:nono: even a single word that is against the rules mentioned in this thread and BANG...a ban.

"Our" paramilitary corps??? Friend with my magical IP locater I found out that you do not live in the PRC. My IP locater says > You are located in KITCHENER, Ontario, Canada.

You could have simply stated not in China.

What is the policy on this forum about posting personal information about other users? Well at least you did not post the IP.

Yeah, the photo of the small plane with the banner is nice. I wonder how many in the west see this photo just like I'm sure few in China see the one of the banner on the SF bridge few days ago.
I guess in the end, the Chinese & western media are more alike than they like to admit. :)

I find most westerners' enthusiasm in this Tibetan independence thing rather disturbing, because most of them have never been to Tibet nor know anything about Tibetan history and culture, or Tibet's current conditions.

The reason they are so upset about the issue is because a book wrote by some ex-SS guy and the anti-communist propaganda during the cold war were the only information people have access to in regards to Tibet for decades. And based on those information, westerners formed a very biased opinion on the issue, and western media tailored to that opinion through very one sided reporting, which strengthens people's opinions on the issue which in turn causing the media to present even more biased reports. And this relationship between public opinion and media went into a vicious cycle, eventually reaching the present state where outright lies can be told by the media and people will swallow them no questions asked.

Now, here is the squillion dollar question: Who is going to un-convinced the Chinese people that westerners are all self righteous, racist, arrogant hypocrites now? And How will he/she do it?

Sometimes administrators and very aggrogrant and do not respect forum members, they always think they are on top of others and display an attitute of "don't you dare to talk to me like that".
This happens to both Chinese and US forums.

Excellent question. The Chinese media have been emphasizing the protests to be limited to small pro-Tibetan groups so far so I don't think it has reached the point of the Chinese thinking ill of all westerners.
The worst thing to come out of this would be for some western leaders to succumb to short-sighted domestic political pressure & boycott the game. When the non-western leaders show up at the game, people around the world will see this as a west vs non-west thing which is real bad news for the future of the world.
