Reducing rates are a thing in the west as well. Numbers would be below replacement but are propped up by immigration. Can be partially attributed to loss of Christian values. Life in west is still comparatively easier than east asia. Working culture is much more relaxed than east asia. Economics are easier too. As much as westerners complain about cost of living crisis, even China isn't doing much better than the west. Japan and Korea are absolute dystopian at the moment for other reasons on top of CoL. Within only major cities of China this is a prominent issue.

China seeks to ease marriage requirements, tighten divorce laws

China's Ministry of Civil Affairs released a draft law on Sunday that simplifies marriage registration and refines divorce procedures. The draft proposes significant changes to existing laws, removing the need for household registration documents and allowing couples to register anywhere in the country.

The draft law, open for public comment until Sept. 11, refines the "30-day cooling-off period" for divorce, requiring both parties to reconfirm their intention after the initial application. The revision also clarifies the conditions under which a marriage can be annulled, including cases of coercion or non-disclosure of major illnesses.

Hopefully this law goes through despite the kvetching of people online. There is absolutely no reason why in-laws and parents should have legal veto over two people who want to get married. Next up is legalizing women freezing their eggs and prescribing anti-morning sickness medications.

Is this even a "tightening" of divorce laws? I know the 30-day cooling-off period has already been put in place since 2021, and before this new law both people still needed to attend an appointment to confirm the divorce. This seems more like continuing the 2021 law. They also seemed to have added new categories to when a divorce is valid (illness or coercion).

The new marriage requirements are more worth looking at since they seem like a more radical change.

Just listen to what U.S. politicians say for their own country. Child tax credit, affordable housing, secure the border. Now look at what they suggest for China. They hope China repeats what many of them now regret. That being said I do think China could allow in more immigrants at a limited level if they are highly skilled and sponsored by an employer. It's not for mass immigration, but it's for a small amount of skilled immigration.

It really depends on the quality of the immigrants you're letting in. Skilled, healthy, law abiding migrants of both sexes who are culturally similar? Great! Millions of uneducated third world young males with totally different cultures and a high propensity to violence? Not so much. Ask Europe.

Well ideally all refugees should go through filtering, forced to learn the local tongue and de-radicalised before been allowed into wider society, furthermore they should be spread out rather than dumped into one city allowing them to set up ethnic enclaves. Basically everything that could go wrong with refugees did in Europe, now we're seeing the consequences.

Skilled immigration is a tricky one, since what is "skilled" varies greatly across the world. With university education you run into people who fake their degrees, with trades you run into people who are not only not familiar with the language, but also have no idea about your country's building standards. Allowing foreign "skilled" constitution crews immigration into Australia have caused a very noticeable drop in quality in local construction.
