How to read the meaning of China CG numbering system. For the 5 digit system - first 2 digit indicate which province local command (something like a ZIP code) third digit indicate tonnage, last 2 digit indicate the number of ship entering service. Example 44104 belong to provincial command coded 44, tonnage 1000+, ship number 4 in this tonnage class.
4 Digit code - first digit indicate the region command (similar to NSF, ESF and SSF), there are only 3 numbers, 1,2 and 3, second digit indicate tonnage, last 2 digit indicate the number of ship entering service. Example 2401 and 3401 are first ships of 4000 tonnes class under regional commands coded 2 and 3.
There are exceptions - these are ships "drafted" into CG fleet from PLAN, Fishery and Ministry of Transport during the urgent times in the Diaoyu islands conflict. They were given numbers different from the above coding system.
CG ships bearing 5 digits are under provincial level local command and usually carry heavy machine guns or small calibre guns (<> 30mm). These are normally less than 2000 tones.
CG ships bearing 4 digit numbers are under direct control of national level regional command and usually are large ships of more than 1000 tonnes to 10,000 tonnes (CG 2901 and 3901) with no mounted guns.
This would depend much more on the particular agency they are built for and in service with.So does it appear that the lack of armaments heavier than MGs or small calibre cannons is going to continue? For all ships or those of a particular size or under a certain command?
As these ships are meant to serve the security of shipping as well as enforce laws the ability to combat fires in ships will be part of their tasks so water cannon can be expected in all of them.So does it appear that the lack of armaments heavier than MGs or small calibre cannons is going to continue? For all ships or those of a particular size or under a certain command?
Are water cannons standard equipment? For ships of a certain size or under a certain command?
