Guys, talking about arming or not arming CG cutters is on topic and part of the military/defense discussion and purpose.

Going off on a tangent about China demonization, China victimization, western press bias, etc., etc. is not.

Those posts have been deleted.

Yet they're still leaving the majority of their cutters unarmed. There must be a reason for it. The CCG aren't stupid, they're aware they are facing opposing cutters which may carry guns. Japanese ones especially tend to be more heavily armed than the average CCG cutter.

Yet only a few of their newer and refitted cutters are armed with guns heavier than an HMG, so then we have to ask why? Is it a technical reason that prohibits them from putting large guns on their cutters? Or is it a conscious, prudent decision possibly informed by... a reason which shall not be named?

Not putting mounted guns on CG ships has one big advantage, i.e. prevent escalation of hostile encounter into firefights, and also will not be accused to be the aggressive party that draw the first blood.

If you notice, only smaller CG ships that are tasked with anti-smuggling, other customs duties and operate in inshore water are armed.

A little clarification on the instructions about talking about the press.

Do not talk about Western or Chinese press bias.

Do not talk about some who demonize China to make your points, or others who use victimization to make your points.

Do not talk about ideology and politics.

Having said that, it is clear that the PRC understands how they are characterized and plans accordingly to avoid negative characterization. This figures particularly into how they arm the CG cutters.

You can discuss China arming or not arming its cutters based on how they will be characterized in incidents involving those cutters, just do not delve into and argue about the points above.

That is all.

The 5000 ton cutter resembles the Legend class cutter in configuration and size quite a bit I think, though obviously it lacks any meaningful armament.

Anyway on google earth's latest update we can see both 12,000 ton cutters in JNCX's fitting basin along with four 052Ds, giving a good impression of its size, again.
That's along with another 052D outside the basin fitting out, 052C 151 returning for some kind of modification or repair, and seemingly the bow of JN's 7th 052D peeking out from building hall one.
I expect the yard to get even busier as they start launching 055s. I suspect 055 to be at least as wide as the 12,000 ton cutters and probably 1/8 longer as well, overall.
