If they are actually testing DF-41 it could mean that PRC has not manufactured many DF-31 series missiles because those are just "stop gap" ICBM's. Though I have to suspect claim about 10 MIRV's on each missile, that's a lot eggs in a one basket for land based system.

Let's wait and see.

I have always wondered why they never made a decision to use this JL-1/DF-21 RV (200-300kt) in the DF-31 series missiles, it 's smaller than DF-31 RV but almost as powerful. Is few hundred kilotons of explosion power really worth of the extra size and weight? I would argue that no country would like to get their large city (New York, Washington, London, etc) hit by a 200-300kt weapon, so in theory JL-1/DF-21 RV should more than enough for deterrence.

I'm quite sure that JL-1 RV is small enough to be used as a MIRV for DF-5 ICBM, perhaps small enough for DF-41 to carry at least three? Would make sense if they used it instead of that larger DF-31 RV.

JL-1 RV. Second picture gives a good hint of it's size.

DF-31 RV in comparison, clearly a bit larger weapon. Source for this image is CCTV documentary from 2004.

Hongjian just posted this message on CDF Notam issued , second test of JL2 imminent

2nd test is probably a misnomer. JL 2 has been repeatedly tested over the year culminating in salvo firing last year . Look like it is tested from operational submarine

Interesting, in militaryphotos forum one Chinese guy says that famous "DF-41 canister" is actually oil field component. Perhaps that explains why it's not carried by any sort of TEL, of course it could be just weight testing, but i'm not sos ure anymore.

Oil field equipment? Won't it be carried by some thing like this?

The Biggest All-Terrain Crane Chassis Successfully Launched

Published date:2012-10-26 09:17 ...

The biggest all-terrain crane chassis QAY1600 has just been successfully launched at XCMG, marking a new height of China’s R&D and production ability in super heavy all-terrain crane chassis. QAY1600 is equipped with a self-made 9-bridge system, a high-performance hydro-pneumatic suspension system, and an all-wheel drive multi-mode Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS), enabling it to perform pivot-turn and crab hydraulic steering, with higher mobility. The use of multiple-bridge driven technology on QAY1600 provides greater power, making it possible to practice heavy-duty drive and tough-terrain drive, with a maximum climbable gradient of 50%.

The concept of "all terrain" in most heavy civilian engineering vehicles like a heavy duty crane is usually really limited to ability to travel on firm, relatively level, somewhat prepared, but unpaved surfaces.

Cross country for a military vehicle is a whole difference concept involving move through oozing liquid mud 0.6 meters deep or drive over surfaces with protruding boulders 0.5 meters high.
