“Our JL-2 SLBMs have become the fourth type of Chinese nuclear missiles that threaten the continental United States, after our DF-31A, DF-5A and DF-5B ICBMs,”
DF-5B? I think that is probably best evidence so far to support suggestions that PRC still does not have solid-fueled missile with a MIRV capability, and that is one reason why DF-31A has not replaced DF-5 missiles. DF-31A could easily replace DF-5's since even if it's a single warhead missile (200-500kt?) it's more than enough to provide deterrence against any possible enemy.
All the state-run press reports stressed the point that the PLA’s missile submarines are now on routine strategic patrol, “which means that China for the first time has acquired the strategic deterrence and second strike capability against the United States.”
