They basically hollowed out a mountain to build this. Had it being completed it would require 10,000 people to run and require 1/3 of the entire flow of the Wu Jiang river as coolant to keep the reactor cool. But keeping it running for a decade or two would have resulted in enough plutonium for China to equal the warhead count with US or Soviet Union at the peak of the cold war.
Xi says the most striking thing is unlike most reactors we are used to seeing where it's at the bottom of a pool this reactor is kind of suspended in air in the middle of a room. It's graphite moderated and very dangerous design. To shut down the reactor if it's running required the fuel rods to be pulled out and while there's a mechanical system to do this remotely, should it fail the only way to shut it down would be to send people in to do it by hand. Thus had it gone into operation this facility would have required a team of people on stand by ready to sacrifice their lives at a moment's notice.

China could conduct a new #anti-missile test on September 15, between 07:39 and 09:12 UTC.
The target missile would be fired from Taiyuan Space Center while the interceptor missile from Korla.

Has there been any proposals, plans or actual system in operation, whether that be in China or elsewhere around the world, whereby one ICBM would carry multiple conventional, non-nuclear warheads only (MIRV-capable)?
Those conventional warheads can either be high-explosive or bunker-busting.

no, how would you differentiate between that and nuclear warheads? Whoever you launch it against will assume nuclear warheads are coming.
