Advances in the Brazilian submarine program

(defensa.com) Signature Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN), formed by Odebrecht and France's DCNS, received Nuclebras Heavy Equipments (Nuclep) Qualification Section, which aims to enable engineers, technicians and workers make their activities in the testing phase before applying them in the sections that will then be definitely built for submarines.


According to Pascal Le Roy, president of ICN is one of the most important steps for continued Prosub (Program Submarine Development) "with labor 100% national, applying technical and technological knowledge received from France by Brazilian professionals within the technology transfer agreement signed between the two countries, "he said.

The device was moved from the Nuclep, near the shipyard, led by a hydraulic trailer to the Main Board of the so-called UFEM (Manufacturing Unit of Steel Structures) of ICN. The ceremony was attended by officials and senior officials of the Navy, as well as shareholders and directors of the companies involved.

Interesting so Brazil will be able to construct their own submarines than. My guess is it will be a diesel electric attack submarine type.

You’re right on the money with that Equation. I will be the Scorpene class that will be constructed. President Dilma Rousseff recently inaugurated the factory that will make metal hull structures for four conventional diesel-electric Scorpene attack submarines and eventually a fifth submarine powered by a nuclear reactor developed entirely by Brazil (with French help).

The President also said that as of one of the BRICS group of leading emerging nations and Latin America (South America's largest nation), was a peaceful country but a defense industry was needed to deter and prevent violent conflict.

Mexico's Navy and Damen Shipyards sign a contract of sale of two vessels

(defensa.com) The Dutch Damen Shipyards Group has reported contracts signed last August with the Navy of Mexico for the supply of design, materials, technical assistance and training two locally built vessels the Navy of Mexico under the Technical Cooperation Programme of Damen.

The first contract concerns a Damen Stan Patrol patrol 4207. This vessel, the seventh class of Tenochtitlan (named as the first ship of this class used by the Navy of Mexico), will be built at the shipyard Tampico ASTIMAR 1. The shipyard, located in the Gulf of Mexico, previously built three patrol Stan Patrol and now begin the construction of the other four.

The second contract concerns fast crew supply vessel Fast Crew Supplier 5009 This vessel incorporates the lubber line Damen Sea Axe, which reduces slamming up to 70%. The 5009 FCS has adapted to the specific requirements of the Navy of Mexico. Among other things, one deck crane and a complementary module accommodation is included. Altogether it can carry 145 passengers and 17 crew members. The vessel will be built at the shipyard of the Navy ASTIMAR 6 Guaymas, on the western coast of Mexico, has four engines Caterpillar 3512C TA and reaches a speed of 21 knots.

The Technical Cooperation Programme enables Damen shipyards that are not part of the Damen Shipyards Group build vessels with design, material and technical assistance and logistics Damen. According to the Dutch company, has built more than 500 ships Damen shipyards worldwide with this method.
