So...they will continue to use the Sao Paulo as they can as it is?
They have the A-4s which are being modernized. They bought the Trackers which are also being modernized.
Are they going to continue those projects?
Seems to me, that they have to determine if the Sao Paulo can operate at all to take advantage of the other things they are doing. If not, unless their plans to get a newer carrier are moved forward, or unless they have decided to move their Naval Air Arm completely ashore, then why spend the money on the A-4s or the Trackers?
Seems like Brazil is having a hard time making up their mind what they really want to do...and what they can really afford.
That is a good question. I would assume by their actions that they (Brazilian Navy) will continue to operate the carrier in its current configuration and knowing that the vessel will not be modernized. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Brazil has been helping China with its carrier operations for some time now.
Now that the Sao Paulo will not be modernized, it will be interesting if there two nations will cooperate on a new carrier? Can you imagine a joint Chinese and Brazilian carrier with catapults?
