Extremely busy vessels the RAN can ill afford to do without.
Sorry to hear this. With 14 vessels, losing any one of them is significant.

These are very good patrol vessels.

Very similar in form and function to the US Coat Gurad Sentinel Class, Fast Response cutters.

The USCG has ten Sentinels launched, and thirty on order out of a planned fifty-eight.

These are relatively inexpensive ships and contractor would probably have to pay for the damage, so it is not such a big loss.

Although it maybe a small loss monetary wise it would probably be large loss security wise.
Those boats were utilized for border patrol. Now border patrol would be that much thinner.

As I said, it is for the RAN, a significant loss.

With only 14 for their huge coast line (and more), everyone of them is carefully scheduled for maintenance, work up, deployment, stand down, and then starting that cycle again.

A significant delay to any of them cascades through the whole...not to mention what a complete loss does.

The RAN will recover, and nothing critical will be made vulnerable...but it is still a significant loss to them for these vessels duties.

Naval Today said:
The Boeing Co., Seattle, Washington, is being awarded a $295,6 million advance acquisition contract for the procurement of long-lead items for the manufacture and delivery of 12 Lot II Full Rate Production P-8A aircraft for the U.S. Navy (8) and the government of Australia (4).

Work will be performed in Seattle, Washington (82.6 percent); Baltimore, Maryland (6.2 percent); Greenlawn, New York (4.2 percent); the United Kingdom (3.5 percent); and North Amityville, New York (3.5 percent), and is expected to be completed in April 2018.

Fiscal 2014 advanced procurement aircraft procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $152,043,495 and foreign military sales funds in the amount of $55,800,000 will be obligated at time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

This contract combines purchase for the U.S. Navy ($152,043,495; 51 percent) and the government of Australia ($143,599,789; 49 percent) under a cooperative agreement.

This contract was not competitively procured pursuant to FAR 6.302-1. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.

Great news for the US Navy as new P-8s continue to be delivered and the first RAN P-8s get started.

Cannot wait to see the P-8 sporting the Australian roundel Jeff.

Further large jet purchases now being mooted by the Federal Government. More KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transports and C-17's on the cards.
