Not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask but what degree of commonality exists between the J-15D and J-16D exists with respect to EW suites? I know the wingtip RWR system is externally different (not sure about internals?) but are they expected to share jamming pods?

Finally, do we know if there are differences in radar dimensions?

Thank you as usual for any insights :)

Not so much answering the above question, but one factor missing from the above chart is the fact that US ship launches have been barely enough to cover ships that are being decommissioned, such that the US battle force size has actually been in decline. Induction of lemon ships in past years (LCS) and high tempo of deployments have contributed to this decommissioning.

Other than Covid, what has made the Chinese go slower in past 4 years?

They've already ordered and launched quite a large number of modern ships in the mid to late 2010s.

Now they are:
- continuing a moderate pace of ship procurement for the surface fleet
- ramping up submarine procurement (nuclear submarines in particular)
- likely carefully evaluating what they actually need in the medium to long term out of their future surface ship fleet -- the last thing you want is to buy a bunch of existing ships and train a bunch of personnel to crew them, if that resourcing could've gone to a better designed set of ship classes instead. (The PRC geostrategic environment as well as the nature of military technology is one which has evolved somewhat in the last decade or so, and may evolve further)

.....
At one time China was literally building (2 Frigates, 4 Destroyers, 2 Cruisers, and 1 Landing Helicopter Dock) on average per year.
Nobody was expecting these numbers to go on indefinitely.
The Last decade was the decade of surface combatants and amphibious assault ships.

Going forward, I expect the number of surface combatants and LHD's being launched to slow down a bit as some of the (money, material, and manpower) gets redirected to building submarines and carriers.
The next decade will be the decade of nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers......it should be exciting!

And what comes after the year 2035?
China will have all the equipment / weapons necessary for self defense. The next step will be to develop the capacity to project that power abroad long distance. I expect to see a lot of oversea military bases, diplomatic ties, and logistic supply lines being created.....but that's maybe getting ahead of ourselves here.

For those who live in China or Asia. Can somebody explain to me the popularity of Xiaomi phones? What would you say is the appeal of other brands?

From what I can tell, Huawei is on the technological edge, and that’s the appeal of their phones. What about Oppo? Meizu? Realme?

They are cheap. Quality is decent, not amazing.

It is mainly affordability, value for money for the technology, and income levels of people in Asia and China.

People with high income countries like USA and Europe will go for flagship phones from brands like Apple and Samsung. Huawei is banned. Flagship Xiaomi has similar technology as flagship Iphone but they are much cheaper, and Xiaomi cameras has renowned Leica lens, i.e. better value for money.

Also, Xiaomi phones are not sold in USA for some reasons, I believe they do not have official distributorship in US.

Average income of Asians (and other parts of the World) are lower, they go for Mid-range priced phones and Budget priced phones regardless of brands.
