I'm very sorry that you have to deal with these posts.

I've worked with a number of OpenAI "top devs" and they are absolutely EA rationalist nuts who spout AGI crap all day.

When you know that these people mostly had inhabited hackernews, 4chan and reddit before they became self-proclaimed AI god messihas, everything makes a lot more sense. Basically losers and basement nerds going on a massive power trip/ superiority complex, and not being able to handle it like adults since they're just manchildren.

What's worse is many of them believe other tech folk and people in general are useless chaff soon to be brushed aside by the AI god they will create. They are bizarrely hostile to anybody not part of the cult and the mission because they believe they are at odds with humankind and organic life itself.

I actually have seen how useful AI can be in the real world, but I also know from personal experience that the market is not particularly receptive to AI enhancement. You really need people that buy into AI to bring into their companies' operations.

And what people don't realize is that LLM itself only partially brings increased efficiency. It's the tools that you build around it and the service that you provide that really brings the efficiency.

People who don't deal with customers don't understand this.

I understand why Sam Altman has to spew this AGI stuff all day. He needs it to keep the money flowing and he is really good at getting people to give their money to him.

You really need talent for that. But we've now had this entire AI inspired tech war because the US govt bought into this AGI dream.

Sora is trash, I knew there was a reason they weren't releasing it. Simulate physical world my *ss, the people clip thru each other and the dogs grow two heads.
Original Sora had better physics lol

Seems to me that for them to roll it out to the general public (even with a subscription) they heavily dumbed it down.

Visuals are an upgrade imo, but physics have taken a beating for sure

OpenAI, good luck leading the field with a $200/mo subscription. The average salary of an Indian call center operator is $250/mo, can you even replace those guys? Meanwhile, Anthropic is done. Situation so bad the CEO wrote a letter basically begging for money in October. Positron AI has nice people but going nowhere.

I'm calling the LLM race for China, the moment the price war was launched it was over. Completely meaningless race of course, since all it can do is automate services and doesn't add to national hard power. Good hustle by DeepSeek and Qwen teams. Made it just in time to notch the win for 2024, Year of the Dragon.

Not completely meaningless, every dollar US threw at brute forcing AI is a dollar they did not spend on sectors that actually contribute to hard power.

I tested Sora extensively, its definetly the best model out there right now, but not so much better that I would keep spending $200/mo on it, o1 Pro included... its still hit and miss, and not perfect by any means, and no where close to AGI

Of course for public facing AI they have to water it down, but that just makes the $200 ask even more ridiculous

Had no idea Anthropic was in money troubles, I use claude for writing long outputs and did notice recently it would switch to concise answers by default
