nothing like government bureaucracy screwing up new technology, lol

It is funny to me that people think this kind of stuff is a good idea.

Had no idea Anthropic was in money troubles, I use claude for writing long outputs and did notice recently it would switch to concise answers by default
The problem with Anthropic is that Amazon has too much control over them.

They had resources taken away from them so Amazon could expand AWS datacenters. They're also being forced to use the crappy Trainium clusters from Amazon when they formerly used all Nvidia, which is not good when they're already behind.
Amazon’s Trainium2 is not a proven “training” chip, and most of the volumes will be in LLM inference. Amazon’s new $4 billion investment in Anthropic is effectively going to find its way back into the Project Rainier 400k Trainium2 cluster, and there are no other major customers yet.
Project Rainier has Amazon providing Anthropic with 400k Tranium 2 chips, but, in raw FLOPs, that is less than 100k GB200s. Anthropic will have to produce significant engineering achievements to pull off training in such a cluster. Spreading accelerators across a large campus, or multiple campuses, itself leads to significant challenges posed by Amdahl’s law, though there are already

Anthropic is done. Situation so bad the CEO wrote a letter basically begging for money in October
I missed that letter, do you have a link? From what I've read, Claude is doing pretty well. I prefer ChatGPT, but Claude is pretty good.

My assessment of the current US market is that substance is of little importance, what’s important is who has the most "promise", i.e. marketing, connections, etc. It’s kind of like the Chinese real estate market a few years back. How much value was there in empty apartments? It didn’t matter, there was a lot of money and nowhere to invest it, so it went wherever people believed there’d be growth, damn the value. What exactly is the value in BTC? Which AI company has prospects for profit? How is Tesla’s growth story going? Only Nvidia and SpaceX IMO have the fundamentals, but one designs hardware and has no connections, which isn’t sexy enough, and the other isn’t publicly traded. OpenAI and BTC have the brand, Musk has the connections, Nuscale, Palantir, etc. have the hype. Judging by Trump’s recent comments BTC is starting to get some political support as well.

If Trump/Musk is serious about turning off the gov handout spigot, there’ll be a recession and companies like Anthropic will be left swimming naked. Those with connections will survive, and a new wave of companies that manage to turn AI into useful services rather than those chasing the pipe dream of AGI will be the next giants in tech.

How about them GME stocks though...a lot of people are waiting for it to go up in value.
