3) Would Russia try to commandeer the ship and bring it home to Russia at the possible risk of war?

The Boats of Cherbourg was an Israeli military operation which took place on 24 December 1969, and involved the escape of five unarmed Sa'ar 3 class boats from the French port of Cherbourg. The boats had been paid for by the Israeli government but had not been delivered due to the French arms embargo in 1969.

Could lighting strike twice? Would be AMAZING if Russia can pull this off.

All I can state is Wow!..Questions arise.
1) Will France EVER deliver the ship to Russia?
2) Will France keep the ship for itself even though I'm sure all the Russian checks for payment on these ships have cleared the bank.
3) Would Russia try to commandeer the ship and bring it home to Russia at the possible risk of war?

I'd like to know what navyreco thinks of this situation & what all our carrier aficionados think.

I don't think Russia will do anything except to complain to the UN or World Court.

They could sell it to Italy or even dare to LOAN it to the Ukraine.

This is how the official Russian government has told to France, sir.

I saw that earlier at mp.net. Legal action is more than likely the Russians only recourse.

I really don't they they would try to take the ship by force. That would be quite an undertaking with the risk of many lives lost and more international sanctions & repercussions against Russia..

So here it it, I hope you'll enjoy, I was alone and did my best for pictures

Video and photo coverage: Catamaran 2014 large joint amphibious exercise with CVN, LHD, LPD
HiZDAXh.jpg

From October 13 to 26, French forces (as well as British ones at staff level) take part in a large-scale operational exercise simulating an expeditionary amphibious operation in a crisis situation. The joint maneuvers take place in the western Mediterranean and the French Riviera. The French Navy (Marine Nationale) invited Navy Recognition to cover the exercise: We could witness some of the amphibious assault, we then got on board an EDA-R (L-CAT) to reach the Mistral LHD at sea and the pinnacle of the event was a tour on board the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier.

Navyreco you have done a fantastic job are you a military journalist how did you get on board? Wow nice so lucky I would have loved to have been there really big and massive excercise

You had a mine sweeper group
A carrier strike group
And a amphibious ready group all working together for a single mission now that's what I call a naval unit

A few questions

Can the landing catamaran fit in to the Foudre Class LPD?
Also what the is the Super Etendard mission from the CVN, is it air superiority or ground support?

1 x CVN, 2 x LHD, 1 x LPD, 1 x SSN and scores of other ships! The most powerful naval force outside USN better than UK easily, even with a Queen Elizabeth UK will not have the amphibious capability for France

France should not have cancelled the 4th Mistral, the 2nd carrier and sold the 2nd LPD to Chile

I could not help but take these snaps from the video

1 x CVN, 2 x LHD, escorts and a replenishment tanker

Now this is what cats and traps gives you the ability to have situational awareness which is crucial for a military campaign and something UK will never have, a fixed wing AWACS on board French carrier

Oh, I think that a Royal Navy group consisting of the HMS Queen Elizabeth (with a full load of F-35Bs), the HMS Ocean, the two Albion Class LPDs, a couple of Type 45 Darings, an Astute class SSN, and accompanying Type 23 FFGs would be as strong, if not stronger than the French group.

The major advantage for the French grouping at that point would be the E-2C Hawkeye AEW capability they would bring.

EDAR very interesting AA ship, i have see him only used by Mistral LHD, but only 4 EDAR for 3 Mistral, LCU used to supplement.

Super Etendard carry only 2 Magic, AAM IR then used for ground support but as all carrier aircrafts its primary mission is anti-ship attack.

This is a good boy carry several LGB again interesting and often pilots are very attached to their old aircrafs.

Next year Sirocco get only 16 years ! ( really stupid ! ) and Meuse CS removed.
Then only 3 big AA ships but one do training ship " mission Jeanne d' Arc " during 4/6 months fortunately Navy have idea sharing it with a deployment ( close to Africa with a Army units on board ) 2 missions in one for several years Europeans Armies must be incredibly inventive to use a weak resource and should soon reach the limits, i hope without aftermath...
