I believe that X-47B has already been launched from the aircraft carrier.

Here are some of the latest still pictures of the Japanese Carrier, JS Izumo, DDH-183 (though I think it chould be designated CVH-182), as she is outfitting in Japan. These were taken from a recent video.

She displaces over 30,000 tons and is as long as the Wasp Class LHDs of the United States Navy.

This is going to be a very impressive vessel and the Japnese are building a second vessel of this class as well.

That's a good looking carrier. My fav thus far.

I think JMSDF will have the force equivalent of two Expeditionary Amphibous groups when these two Izumo Class are deployed

Thier flat top fleet will look like this

3 x Osumi Class LPD
2 x Hyuga Class LHD
And 2 x Izumo Class LHD

now I think they can use the Osumi Class as a ASW screen and also the Hyuga Class too which can take V-22 Ospreys of which Japan has 17 on order

The Hyuga Class could take a F35B and certainly the Izumo Class can take F35B too

I guess they could get 4 x F35B on each Hyuga and 8-10 x F35B on each Izumo Class

So overall they could get into action 24-30 x F35B in the sky's over the sea which is a very good force for air cover for a amphibious landing for the Osumi Class to carry out

Backed up by a very large and modern DDG Flotilas

Those Ospreys landed on the JMSDF ship JS 4002 Shimokita last June 2013. The ship & JMSDF ship Hyuga (DDH 181) was operating near San Diego at the time of the pictures you see. They were participtating in an amphibious exercise named Dawn Blitz.... here's a video.

Yes, and on the Hyuga, and then later her sister ship the Ise, they have shown that the V-22 can go below into the hanger and fits just fine.

I have not seen, and do not believe that the hanger on an Osumi class LPD could accommodate an Osprey...but I do not know that for sure.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has handed over the lead ship of a new amphibious assault ship class designed to optimise operations of the US Marine Corps' MV-22 Osprey tiltrotors and the F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighters.

America (LHA 6) was delivered to the US Navy (USN) on 10 April at HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

The America-class ships are replacing the USN's Tarawa-class amphibious assault ships. The first two ships of the class, America and Tripoli (LHA 7), have been designed without a well deck but feature an enlarged hangar and belowdeck spaces to better support aircraft maintenance. Well deck capability is expected to be restored in the third ship of the class in response to changed requirements since the inception of the America class.

The ship is expected to commission in late 2014 in San Francisco, California, and will be homeported in San Diego.
