Other then SAM Barak Air defense system is also known as AMD, Anti-Missile Defense, it is expected to defeat supersonic missile (like that of supersonic anti ship cruise missile).

That is something that makes this missile special.
Well, it will be special for India, though some of their existing missiles have this capability. This missile just has longer range and is capable of handling saturation attacks.

But, several other nations already employ missiles at sea that are very good at intercepting supersonic and subsonic anti-ship/cruise missiles and designed to do so in saturation attacks. To name a few, here are some of them:

- Aster 15.
- Aster 30.
- Rim-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow and RIM-116 RAM.
- Rim-66 and Rim-67 SM-2.
- Rim-174 SM-6.
- Rim-161 SM-3 for ballistic missiles.
- S-300 missiles.
- 9m311 missiles.

It is good that India will get a new missile to perform this task...and the sooner they can get them, the better. But make no mistake, there are numerous other systems that have been designed, significantly tested, and deployed to do the same mission.

From what I've read, the problem isn't with the missile system or even integrating the missile system with the ship (note the Kolkata is actually equipped heavily with Israeli sensors and the all important main MFR), but rather, poor ToT terms and project management on the Indian side has lead to an inability for India to actually manufacture the missiles and it will take at least 2015 for the IN to get its hands on any Indian produced barak 8s.

If the IN wants I think they could buy Barak 8s straight from IAI, to expedite the in service date a little.

I'm not too surprised. The archilles heel in many Indian military projects has always been problems and issues with the project management and organizational side of things. They really need to stress the importance of having a solid framework, strong fundemental project management skills and good business model otherwise it will always be an ongoing problem for them. This is something money can't really fix since it's more 'human' related than tech.

Hopefully as they get into more projects these things sort itself out but it appears they are quite slow learners in those areas no offense to the Indian military.

No country is immune to the dark side of military projects, joint ventures and procurement. Things like corruption, political meddling, lobbyist, shoddy contractors and a thousand other things that gets in the way but with the proper tools, good leadership, competent managers and good honest folks working you can minimize and mitigate many of these problems.

Like Jeff's pointed out, virtually every modern naval SAM has a credible ability to defeat supersonic AShMs, and more than a few of them have some level of missile defense capability too.

I think the one thing which Barak 8 has going for it, is that the missile itself is relatively light for its specified range.

I'm afraid that

1. Akizuki's Engine Control Room picture doesn't show up here, so let me post it again:

2. posts to 'JMSDF Akizuki Class DDG (19DD AEGIS-like)' thread are gone :-( so maybe now I'll repeat what's been already said: the FCS-3A radar has the Surveillance and Target Acquisition capability for BOTH the RIM-162 ESSM and the 5"/54 Mark 45 Mod 4 gun, and there's only ONE fire-control system on Akizukis

I think Marocco's FFG is "Aegis like" in much the same way as a pistol is "Cannon Like". There certainly are undeniably similarities in the principles employed. But the world "Like" is clearly there to obscure the crucial differences in caliber.
