:china:Chinese Peoples Liberation Army military vehicles head towards Tiananmen Square for a major rehearsal ahead of the 60th National Day celebrations in Beijing, China, Friday, Sept. 18, 2009. Authorities shut down a major part of central Beijing to conduct a rehearsal for the parade planned in Beijing on Oct. 1.

I heard that Zhang Yimou is in charge of choreography, he made the movie Hero (among others) and directed the Beijing Olympics ceremonies, so we can expect something spectacular.

Personally, I think it would be really cool if the parade began by sending out ancient Qin Dynasty era soldiers, and then soldiers with Han Dynasty equipment, Tang etc., moving up through the ages, all the way up to guys in 1940s PLA garb. Then, finally, with much fanfare ... the modern PLA appears! Tanks roll out, a bunch of jet fighters scream overhead ... you can't tell me you wouldn't get chills.

I think this is a great idea!! :china:

It would be so much fun, and at the same time, showcasing China's ancient history. And a show like this could also difuse any potential tension. We all know the purpose of a military parade. With a show like this, it would definitely soften it a little

Well, a parade is a parade and it's purpose is simply to showcase the military might of PLA. So too much of a show would be without doubt counterproductive to the desired aim...;)

Nevertheless Zhang Yimou is indeed an exceptionally gifted director and he should probably given the assignment to produce a topnotch movie depicting 24 hours of life in the PLA. Every hour would be condensed down to around 5 minutes and would display the duties of PLA soldiers ranking from a private up to a general.

Perhaps the first ´hour´ could show the tough business of a young private guarding the border with India in Arunachal Pradesh, the second ´hour´ would switch to the preparations of a PLAAF officer candidate for his next flight exercise, the third ´hour´ could focus on a PLAN NCO serving on a SSN illustrating his responsible duty in claustrophobic atmosphere, the forth ´hour´ would portray the work of an officer serving in PLA's space command controlling China's space assets securing PLA's communications and situational awareness...and so on until 24 ´hours´ are completed (...hey I'm no screenwriter!:D). Of course the entire concept would have to be dramaturgically worked out for some climactic ending but in my POV this ´24 hour´ draft certainly has some potential since many Chinese people would be duly fascinated by the diversity and new found modernity of PLA.

(...and last but not least PLA today only wants quality recruits and to win them over with a classy PLA portrait directed by Zhang Yimou is definitely no bad idea.:china:)
