I just got up from bed so maybe others can confirm what I'm reading.

Is this how petty the West has become that they wish a stuff animal mascot were ranked dead last...? I didn't know the globe was involved in the process in choosing a mascot. This is what I was talking about before. The US and the West didn't get to dictate whether anything is popular in China. The reporter suggests the popularity of Bing Dwen Dwen is not real because it's only Chinese that made it popular. Then why does he care if only the Chinese made it popular. The irony is it's basic democracy at work and the self-anointed champions of democracy and freedom ultimately look at themselves the judge and no else on something as simple as a stuff animal toy. What other little things in life does the West get to undemocratically overrule over everyone else...? What if China was a democracy? Does the West get the final say on who the Chinese pick as their leader if they get angry over the popularity of an Olympic mascot in China that no input from the West first? They'll claim it's a toy! Yeah, it's just a toy...
The reporters isn’t wishing Bing Dwen Dwen to be ranked last (I’d have to murder them for that), they’re simply saying that it would be interesting to see how bad the one ranked last actually looked/was.

To clarify, this might re-wording make their point more clear:

(It’s truly a shame we never get to see the submission to the mascot competition that was ranked dead last.)

The reporter says "the mascot" not "a mascot" so he wished Bing Dwen Dwen specifically was ranked last. If he wants to look at a bad example of a mascot that should've been last place, look no further than the British one during their summer Olympics I've read was seen as the worst. If that one was best one they had, what was the worst?

Another victim of Beijing 2022’s viciously brilliant PR and marketing campaign! I’m so impressed and proud of them. It has come a long way from the friendly and harmless theme of Beijing 2008. Just so much progress in 15 years.

By focusing on the athletes, Beijing 2022 has achieved much more in winning the hearts of millions. GREAT JOB

Think you misunderstood, the article is saying it's a shame we don't get to see the mascots that were ranked last, presumably for comedic purposes.

The games has been a success under difficult circumstances. Be prepared however for western media to focus on the negatives and a few brainwashed athletes to give biased coverage. Shit articles like these will appear in next few days as the games conclude. Alot of copium is expected from
You can thank NZder Nico Porteous beating the U.S in winIng the half pike freestyle thus preventing the U>S from overtaking China. An increased order for agricultural products in the next few months would be nice.
Just happy we beat the salty aussies
