Sorry for the above post, but I am obsessed with the medalists’ version of the Bing Dwen Dwen plush!
There’s just something about that golden wreath!
I am so obsessed with it that I could possibly murder a medalist just to obtain one.
That’s bad luck, for me, tho’; I live in Minor Britain, and there are no medalists, here!

I just got up from bed so maybe others can confirm what I'm reading.

Though an exact translation is a bit slippery, “Bing” is most commonly a reference to ice, and “Dwen Dwen” often refers to lively and/or chubby children. Bing Dwen Dwen was judged the best of 5,800 global submissions. (It’s truly a shame we never get to see the mascot ranked dead last.) The giant panda is China’s official animal, so the selection of Bing Dwen Dwen isn’t exactly a stretch.

Is this how petty the West has become that they wish a stuff animal mascot were ranked dead last...? I didn't know the globe was involved in the process in choosing a mascot. This is what I was talking about before. The US and the West didn't get to dictate whether anything is popular in China. The reporter suggests the popularity of Bing Dwen Dwen is not real because it's only Chinese that made it popular. Then why does he care if only the Chinese made it popular. The irony is it's basic democracy at work and the self-anointed champions of democracy and freedom ultimately look at themselves the judge and no else on something as simple as a stuff animal toy. What other little things in life does the West get to undemocratically overrule over everyone else...? What if China was a democracy? Does the West get the final say on who the Chinese pick as their leader if they get angry over the popularity of an Olympic mascot in China that had no input from the West first? They'll claim it's a toy! Yeah, it's just a toy...
