US events are coming up now. This is the moment of truth. All 5 athletic medal events today have US athletes at least in 3rd, with many world champions going for gold and even podium sweep attempts today.

If US fumbles again then this will bode really really well for China.
If I had to call it now, I would say that China's probably going to top the medal table (based on golds, but maybe not overall medals).

China got a respectable 26 gold medals at Rio but has already got 29 as of today. I'm not suggesting that China's a sure thing for many more 1st places, but I've got a feeling that the US will not be able to get enough golds to get into first place. I could be wrong of course, but that's my assessment so far.

Can anyone tell me is this the national anthem played for the Chinese Taipei gold medallists or has it been dubbed?

I hear they going to start some new event just for the used condoms in Hong Kong.

Guys let us be gentlemen and give due when it's deserved.

In women's hockey, India beat Australia 1 - 0 to reach the semifinal.

I mean to be fair, if you are giving proper due then you wouldn't even acknowledge this win since China wins more gold medals in 40 minutes than India does in 100 years.

But that is a semifinals and so they didn't even medal yet. Giving acknowledgment and validation for winning a knockout match in their strongest sport (almost all their golds are in hockey) shows how low their standards are.

China is doing great in last few days. Overall, I think it is performing good. Russia is doing okay, too. Japan is doing really well. USA is performing slight worse than I expected. I was expecting more gold from USA in swimming/gymnastics.

Overall Olympics are fun so far, I am enjoying it.
japan is doing well because they dominate in judo, a sport that originate from there. also karate is coming up and i expect them to sweep them gold. so unfair.

Japan's had a fairly diverse medal haul so far. Sure they got a lot of gold medals in the judo, but they also got two in the swimming, others in table tennis, fencing, gymnastics, etc.

Besides, what's the complaint about judo? It's a truly international sport. Japan might have introduced it to the world, but much like football it's taken root in many countries. At Rio Japan won 3 gold, with France and Russia just behind on 2 each. Russia got the most gold medals at London. China was just behind Japan with 3 gold versus 4 at Beijing.

As for karate, it's a temporary sport Japan had the discretion to add. But like judo it has a strong international following, so I wouldn't assume Japan will get a clean sweep of the gold medals even if they could get a majority.

Was just hearing about NZ putting a former man in their women’s weight lifting. Got nothing against transgender people, but this is just western wishfully thinking gone way too far!

Semantics and political correctness doesn’t change biology, and unless they introduce peepee-measuring as a new Olympic event, neither would gender re-assignment surgery, since transgender women would still enjoy all of the additional muscle growth they had as adolescents thanks to their male hormones during puberty.

I would say that transgender athletes should not be allowed unless their surgery occurred before puberty.

If they want to compete in the olympics, then can compete in the biological gender they were before their surgery.
Got to try to beat China by "using every available trick in the book".Anyway she failed by failing to record a lift in the snatch.
