I agree 100%.

Swimming is just an incredibly good activity, you get really healthy swimming and I think more people should take it up even if they don't expect to ever compete in it. Plus, you learn a useful skill if you're ever out on the water or a lake or something. More people in general should just learn to swim.
Why change your population with huge effort when you can just rig the sports you're good at to have 30+ medals?

25 m pistol, 300 m rifle, 5 m dive, sanda and power lifting when??

A very successful Olympics for China. Not knowing what China’s Olympic Committee projected for this Olympics, but likely was 2nd for Gold medals and 2nd overall, which was achieved. Noting 1st place only won one more Gold medal than China. Comparing to all other Olympics China has competed at: equal most Gold medals for an away Olympics, most Silver medals at any Olympics, 2nd best total overall at an away Olympics. Other countries that did well at this Olympics include: Japan (expected as host nation), Australia, New Zealand.
Top 3 in the medal table. 35 golds with 30 golds the floor and 40 golds the ceiling. China's Olympic Committee should be satisfied with the results. Although a few individual categories would be asked to perform better next time such as Archery, boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, and wrestling.

I enjoyed watching Australia's Nicola McDermott win Silver in the high jump clearing 2.02m behind Russia's Mariya Lasitskene (2.04m) and ahead of Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh (2.00m). It was interesting partly because these women resemble antelopes or gazelles with their impossibly long legs and prancing run-ups, but mostly due to Nicola McDermott's expansive emotions and idiosyncrasies. Before each jump she would appear almost giddily joyful but also apprehensive, raising her hands to the sky, calling on her fellow Australians in the stand to clap for her and engaging in visible self-talk, before shouting to herself to "come on!" And after each jump she would immediately go to her notebook and spend a minute or so scoring herself on various aspects of her previous jump. All these little gestures made her more of a "character" than most and contrasted strongly with the more restrained expressions of her Russian and Ukrainian competitors.

Congratulations to both China and Australia on a very successful Olympics and to India for their most successful Olympics yet. It is unfortunate that some posters here are unable to conduct themselves with grace.

Be glad with what one has got. Be careful not to dwell on the losses.

That's the motto. There are countries which see 1 Gold medal as a big deal ( even with a 1.4 Billion population). China's path has been remarkable.

China must focus on reducing "near misses and mistakes". Doing this can result in an extra 3 or 5 medals atleast. Sustained funding and support is needed in medal guaranteed events. China must focus on Golf, equistrian, judo etc.

50+ gold medals is possible.
