Except in reverse. The 091 and 092 and maybe also the 093 and 094 started with an SSN and inserted an SLBM section. Whereas my idea for the 095 and 096 starts with an SSBN design and deletes part of the SLBM section to make an SSN.I mean this approach isnt new for PLAN, the Type 09I and Type 09II are really just distinguished by inserting the SLBM compartment into the SSN baseline hull, which originally was only developed to design proof the SSBN.
My current opinion is the 093B is what people expected the 095 to be years ago, and PLAN wanted something really capable for the 095.listening to shilao's recent podcast on nuclear submarine, it appears to me that they were more optimistic about 095 than last time I heard them really talk about China's submarine program. Also more optimistic than I would've expected.
I guess it needs to be something capable enough that can get into Pacific Ocean, be deployed for long period of time and have very high speed and stealth.
They did describe 093B like Burke III.My current opinion is the 093B is what people expected the 095 to be years ago, and PLAN wanted something really capable for the 095.
Pumpjet only adds 2 kts to top speed, iircThey did describe 093B like Burke III.
The last LA class came out in the mid 90s. I do expect now for 093B to be about that level in stealth, but with vastly superior sensor and processing (just due to the 30 year gap) and probably better stealth at higher speed (due to pumpjet propulsion). Now, 093B still has <=9 m width in pressure hull whereas LA class has 10m width. As such, it would be pretty hard for its stealth to reach earlier Virginia class, which first came out in early 2000s.
But that would mean 095 could be quieter than early Virginia class due to its wider inner hull. I could also see that they would be interested in having larger VLS since quieter & quieter @ higher speed mean they can fire off more missiles without being worried about getting chased down.
I believe the 093B exists because they found their base of SSN personnel too small and that waiting until the introduction of 095 would constrain their SSN fleet expansion in the 2030s. It is always easier to train personnel when you have more boats and more experienced personnel. Because if you introduce 10 newbies to a boat, it works. And those 10 guys learn fast. It doesn't work the same when you introduce 40 newbies. In my opinion 083B has the same role in relation to 095 as the Russian Victor III had to Sierra/Akula boats. While retaining Victor's hull and powerplantit incorporated many systems and weapons from Sierra/Akula, introducing crews to new hardware and bolstering the numbers of quite capable boats.
actually pump jet doesn't add to top speed at all. I'm talking about stealth at higher speed. My understanding is that Pumpjet improves that by quite a lot. Whereas it obviously doesn't help with noise coming out of the engine room or the control room.Pumpjet only adds 2 kts to top speed, iirc
yes, you need to build up your industrial base and your nuclear submarine personnel.I believe the 093B exists because they found their base of SSN personnel too small and that waiting until the introduction of 095 would constrain their SSN fleet expansion in the 2030s.
