It kind of makes sense given the idea of such events are probably something they hope happens or occurs, so they are a bit cognitively primed to think that way.

Neutrality or objectivity isn't necessarily a given.

I hope I can get 500% returns on my Boeing portfolio but you don’t see me running around Twitter saying that you are missing out if you don’t invest in Boeing.

I think people are just upset that people the likes is Shugart and Sutton, who have actual experience and should know better, keep on peddling nonsense.
So I sometimes feel maybe, just maybe, they could be asked or guided by some people to say something like that, so those people could conveniently make some fake news as we saw.

They probably not only hope it happens, but also hope to be among the first to discover and report on it. That way they can go “hey I was the first guy to notice this” and get their 15 minutes of fame.

Not a bad example -- considering there are plentiful people on social media who try to boost stocks that they're invested in, others being primed or posting hopium that their preferred outcome will occur is not very odd.

They probably not only hope it happens, but also hope to be among the first to discover and report on it. That way they can go “hey I was the first guy to notice this” and get their 15 minutes of fame.

That is certainly a factor as well.

That said, I don't feel the need to psychoanalyze them too much. For our purposes, there's ultimately no need to be too irate at them. Extract what's useful, identify the rubbish, move on imo. And if it's seen elsewhere, then if one wants to correct the record, do so effectively and briskly.

Last time, Sutton was doing a victory lap for having his early 'reporting' on a nuke sub sinking confirmed by "British media".
Except, if you clicked the link he posted on Twitter, "British Media" was actually the Daily Mail.

OSINT people need to eat too!

Every time some country accuses China of something, something worse happens shortly after.

Remember they laughed about LHD Anhui being on fire even though there were almost no visible signs of damage within 1 day?

Remember how they were laughing about how a bridge in China "collapsed" (minor damage that was repaired in a few months) due to a ship hitting it?
