They already started repainting the ship. Apparently some of the foam containers used to store equipments caught fire, which made it look worse than it is.

TBH I'm not sure if they would've repainted it; looking at the picture and the pattern of the smoke stain I suspect they probably would've just washed it down instead.

Very likely.

A styrofoam box (and nothing else) caught fire in my back patio (outdoor) once while I was doing some welding work. Generated a hell lot of back smoke and soot on my external wall. I just hosed it off with a little bit of scrubbing with a brush on a few spots.

Below is a Youtube video of a styrofoam factory fire.

I think inside the cleaning work goes on for a while. The soot is highly toxic. And it gathers in the smallest gaps. If sailors are supposed to live on the ship later, the cleaning must be carried out very meticulously.

A fire that is quickly extinguished destroys less. Soot is the problem.

I think it goes without saying that cleaning the outside of the ship is relatively easy, but they'll take longer to assess the extent and nature of the damage inside for a bit and to make the requisite repairs and cleaning.

That said, given the nature of the accident, if it was a fire involving styrofoam potentially making the smoke look worse than the actual extent and intensity of the fire, this accident may end up being one with relatively low cost but give a good reminder to the PLAN and their shipyards to renew and refine their vigilance.

more detail of the aft of the ship after cleaning away the soot.

The external appearance was only pretty superficial, it's not a surprise that they were able to basically clean the outside basically the same day the fire happened.
