Are they gonna just leave the empty deck (which was originally design for HQ7) as it is, or fit something later on? It looks strange though.
I'm referring the deck behind the main gun.Are you refering to the aft end? The flight deck in other words. If so that's for helos.
Or the Bow? The front. Generally speaking LPDs are lightly armed. LPD's are for landing troops..

Yes but HQ-7 isnt a VLS. Even if a single launcher with eight missles and no reloading mechanism was installed, it would still dramatically enhance the ships ability to defend itself from aerial attack.
That's what I mean. HHQ-7 was on the original design anyway (we can see that from the 071 model). So it must be a late decision to not to put HHQ-7 on the ship. Maybe HHQ-7 does not neet PLAN's requirement now. And like bd popeye said VLS takes too much under deck space. So they just leave it at the moment, and waiting for the new ones.Yes but HQ-7 isnt a VLS. I understand most air defense should be escorts' job. But a ship like this should at least have some self defense ability (not just 4 CIWs on the two sides). Like USN CVs even have SAMs. What's more, USS San Antonio LPD has two sets of RAM launchers for air defense. So I don't see why 071 LPD shouldn't have any point-defense SAMs.Pointblank said:Again, that's what a escort is for. The USN San Antonio LPD's does not have SAM's, and they are around the same size.
